I'm pretty sure it's ammonia poisoning, one little mistake.

Thanks, Unfortunately he hasn't gotten any better. It's been a few days now, I have been doing more water changes, but still no change.

I have been okay, really busy. Mr.Grumpy died and one of my boys is hanging on to life, I'm doing the best I can but I don't know if he will pull through. ;-(

In response to how to post a poll, when you start a new thread-at the very bottom there is a box that has Addition Options, in there you will find the option for a new poll :)

I bought and prepared the frozen peas for Jewel but then I came here and realized it's n8t safe for her to eat them. I reduced the water level by half, unplugged her heater, and left the lid off overnight. The next morning, she was completely better. According to the forum, I was overfeeding her the wrong food. I have been to several fish stores hoping to buy nls or omega 1, but none of them carry those. I even asked my local pet store to order omega 1 but they don't even sell fish, so they can't order it. I don't have a credit card, nor would I give out it's number online even if I did, so ordering some online is out of the question. I sent a message to my brother in law, who got me hooked on beta s and he will give my dad some stuff for Jewel to my dad when he sees him next, my dad lives halfway between us. For now, I feed Jewel once a day, and have reduced the amount she gets.

Last night, I reduced her water level, unplugged the heater, and removed the lid. This morning, she is back to her usual self. I'll go back to the disease post and post it anyway. One of the long-term members said this could happen again.
    Thanks

I gave Jewel her dinner tonight and noticed she was swimming on her side just under the surface of the water. Worried for her, I phoned a pet store I trust and explained the situation to them. He said she sounded like she had swim bladder and the easiest way to treat it is to feed her thawed peas, so I took off to the store to buy a bag. After I opened the bag and started thawing them, I looked up fish diseases on this sight. Boy, I'm so glad I did! So now I'll get some epsom salts tomorrow, and fast Jewel for a couple days. Since I can't find those 2 foods you recommended, I sent a message to my brother-in-law if he could find them for me. I can't order them online because I don't have a credit card anymore.

jewel hasn't been the least bit interested in her morning feedings for 3 days now. last night, i purposly didn't feed her her dinner hoping she would want breakfast this morning. WRONG. i did a water test, all 6 levels were perfectly fine. then 1 of the pellets began to sink, and she ate that one. i started thinking, maybe she wants flakes, so i gave her some. she ate those. that was her first feeding of flakes since i've had her. also, i noticed that when i have the glass cover on, she is less active than when it is off. should i get her an air pump, or just leave the lid off? she hasn't jumped since i got her in october, and the water stays warmer with the lid on. the lid has one small opening at an edge for the cords from the heater, etc to go through, but the rest of the lid is solid. i'll take a picture of the top of her tank with the lid on, hopefully it'll show. it will be in my album.
