- started treatment this morning, but he doesn't look so good. he spends most of his time on the bottom, but he comes up for air and food. (at least he's still eating. if anything, he almost seems a little hungrier. I'm hoping this is a good sign.) should I put peach in another kritter keeper? he still looks fine, but I'm worried that the water might contaminate him.
- Awesome, Kritter Keepers make great QTs. Just may want to rinse one really really well before using it if you do need to separate Merlin out of course. xD
So how is he? How are the spots looking? Have you posted anything in the Diseases and Emergencies section?
- I'm afraid I have never used Lifeguard myself and I have heard very little about it, so I can't offer much advice based on any personal experience there.....but lets first figure out whats going on with little Merlin. In the meantime, I'll do a little research on the medication itself.
If there is something wrong with Merlin, it would be a good idea to separate him into a bare bottom heated QT for treatment. Generally something on the smaller side, like 1-2 gallons, is a little easier to treat/maintain, if you have something around that size.
If there is something wrong, and you do separate Merlin for treatment, just keep a very close eye on Peach.
- Hey there Saphira. :)
First of all, its always best not to jump right into medicating, especially with harsher commercial medications, unless you are at least nearly 100% positive about what you're treating. Often times a lot of the more common diseases can actually be treated successfully with clean, warm, fresh water and Aquarium or Epsom salts.
Now, how do these white spots look? Are they raised? Fluffy/Cottony? About how large are they? Any chance you can snap a picture?
If Merlin has Ich, he is going to have several small raised white spots all over his body. It will almost look as if someone took a salt shaker to your fish and sprinkled him with salt. Its a very distinct look, hard to mistake for something else, and its generally more then just one or two spots...so I assume he probably doesn't have Ich.
- Hi dragonfish, Saphira here. I think Merlin has ich. he has a little white spot on his back, and one on his head. I noticed this yesterday, and I just stopped by petco and got some meds. they only had one kind, but my parents didn't want to drive all the way across town to petsmart. It's called tetra lifeguard and It's a five day treatment. it is in the form of tablets. have you ever used this kind before?
- Sure thing!
Haha, you must have an awesome thrift store then! I never see any tanks at mine! Granted my parents would probably kill me if I started coming home with more bigger tanks....I can get away with sneaking in a few smaller ones, but definitely not a 20 gallon!
