I give probiotics to my dog too. It's made a big difference. His digestive issues have cleared up nicely. (He gets a veterinary formulation.)

Florastor is EXCELLENT, but it's expensive. I'm using Jarrow Formulas brand instead. Prices from Amazon:
    Florastor: $33 (50 capsules, 250 mg each)
Jarrow Formulas: $29 (180 capsules, 250 mg each)
So I get twice the number of capsules for about the same price.

I agree its stupid lol. All the other probiotics are at the grocery or health food stores. The funny thing about the Cam worms it seems to be at the major pet stores mostly so coming from a supplier. Im having a chat with my pharmacist about the Florastor. Its nice to find another person working with probiotics! My fish have been way healthier since I started using them.

    Camallanus worms are nasty.

(Thanks - I've always wanted to use that emoticon, and you've given me a reason now. )

So are all brands of S. boulardii sold by prescription only? Or just Florastor? Seems silly to require a prescription for a probiotic!

Well I am seeing a whole lot of camallanus worms around here. Its like a major outbreak of them and they are just nasty nematode.

Canada can be pretty ridiculous about prescription things. I had to get a good foot cream by prescription lol. I am looking around for a generic version.

I wonder why S. boulardii is only sold via prescription up there.

On a different topic: I'm trying to get a feel for just how common internal parasites are in "new" Bettas. Have you found this to be an issue when you get new fish? (IIRC, I once saw a post from Basement Bettas saying she gives a dewormer to her new fish, so I'm wondering if this is something that's a regular protocol.) Thank you!

LittleBlueFishlets! It is an excellent probiotic. Ive taken Florastor myself after a round of antibiotics. For some reason it is sold via prescription here in Canada making it difficult to find for my fish. I do know it is quality. I like that your using in conjunction with others. they all have different strengths kinda like the agents of shield.

Have you looked into Saccharomyces boulardii? I've had excellent results with it (used in conjunction with other probiotics). It's sold under the brand name Florastor, but generic versions are available, too.

Oh yes I take the same antibiotics my fish get. Lactobacteria Rhamnosis GG. One thing for sure imo is that after any antibiotic treatment, fish or human, a few doses of a probiotic can really help recovery. Antibiotics can wipe out the good gut bacteria along with the bad. GG sparks the immune system to produce more T cells in the blood as well.

Well, gee.... Thank you! That was a really nice thing to say. The same is true of you. You have an amazing amount of knowledge, and this forum is lucky to have you! (In fact, I'm currently searching for one of your posts about Methylene Blue for someone.)

Blood poisoning is DEFINITELY nasty stuff. I'm so glad that you're feeling better now!

Are you taking probiotics? (I know you give them to your fish!) This can help avoid issues such as C. diff.

I hope you're feeling better soon!
