They are great at eating snails. I would reccomend sand as a substrate. The problem is there will be many snail shells left. Baiting is a good method. Add lettuce. The will crowd the lettuce. Later on remove the lettuce.

I have outbreak of ramshorn snails. taking over my sorority tank...like 100s of them.
