you can use sponge filter its fine but try to lower the air pump pressure rate so theres not many water movements because wild bettas are from habitats that dont have any water movements and yours are specifically wild caught they might find it annoying at times lol

    Hi there,
I have a really quick question. I got black lava substrate. After I purchase 20 lbs, I realize I never asked. I am doing a planted tank for the wilds. I wanted to ensure I had the right substrate for the tank. I did a search on the forum and found it several times, listed so, I am guessing it is okay. I am working on the plants tonight and hope to have it fully cycled by Monday. I just wanted to see if you had any advice. Also, do you use a filter in yours (I tend to like sponge filters) or, do you need one in a filtered tank? TY so much, my friend. Any help is appreciated. :)
