Tail/fin biters can be so frustrating and often we can never figure out the triggers or get them to stop....Post on the main board with pic and get more ideas from our members that have a lot of personal experience dealing with issues like this.

It depends....on what caused the hole....usually it doesn't mean anything real bad and often it will be due to something you have no control over without causing more problems in other areas. Maintain water quality and good nutrition-If you have a tannin source add this to help toughen fins/scales.

Sudden missing chunks are almost always tail biting....

It can take a week to 10 days for them to calm down and adjust....

Sometimes it can take them some time to adjust to the space-especially the water movement since the long fin males have spent nearly all their life in a small container of water without water movement.
Sometimes the space and water movement can be the cause of tattered fins as well.
By understanding the species habits can help you understand normal behaviors-The males are surface dwellers that build a nest at the surface-stake territory and wait on a female to pass by to reproduce-this tells us normal behavior for a male will be a fish that stay in one area at the surface and generally doesn't swim around a lot.

It sounds like he is adjusting to the new space and its not uncommon for them to kinda freak out for a few days. You might want to turn the light off for a day or so and if you have a filter-sometimes that needs to be turned off as well-especially if he didn't have one in the other tank. Turning the filter off will effect the nitrogen cycle if that has already been established-but you could place the filter media in another tank if you have one or the filter itself if needed to keep the BB alive. You could also place the filter media in the 1gal and add an airstone to supply the oxygen for the BB.
If he doesn't calm down or his behavior get worse-you may have to keep him in the 1gal long term. Some males can have problems tolerating too much space-other don't have any problems. Keep me posted...
