Your welcome, the reptile guard or w/e is unnecessary so don't be religious about it, I tend to avoid any chemicals but my softshells are a lot more sensitive then RES. You got 2 lights right? An incandescent bulb wont give you UVB
What size baby and what size/brand pellets? if its a hatching then 3-4 mini reptomin pellets each a day is fine but the don't stay that small long, if you put some feeder guppys and minnows with them you can feed them less and if they are hungry they will hunt the fish - if you don't loose any fish then they aren't that hungry
