Is playing in water a girl-cat thing?

My female cats kept playing with the drip in the bathroom sink and leaving smudgy grey foot prints all around the basin. So I bought them a recirculating pet fountain to discourage the bathroom sink shenanigans. They love the fountain, but the sink is still their fave!
