If she had food bits on her hands that could have caused a spike. Still baffled, tho. Sorry it happened to you, tho.

No, my tanks are off limits for my relatives. My sister also put her hand in the water, and she's 5. I'm guessing its her. :( I did use paint but that was 2 days ago, of course I washed my hands. *sigh*

Ammonia spike in a tank without fish? My guess is that something happened to kill off the bacteria. If you'd been working with chemicals or even simple stuff like paints before hand that could have killed them off. But just the decor shouldn't have. Did someone else dose your tank with ammonia, too, by chance?

    Hi... Again. :o
Well, somehow my tank got an ammonia spike. :( I did a water change that was like 60% and now it's around 3ppm. How did that happen? I also put in decorations that I bought today. Does my hand do anything with the parameters? To be honest, I didn't wash my hands before.. I guess I forgot. :( It just... Happened.

Thoughts? It's my 1st fishless. There weren't any spikes when I did a fish-in with Lebron.

Oh okay, thank god. *phew* Hehe
The tank is already dark, filter on high, and that's about it. x( I still need to get a heater, and I'm possibly getting an aerator volcano, too. I'll search for it when I go to my Petco on Friday, thanks again.

Haha you're not a nuisance at all! It sounds like Hally has given you some very good suggestions. I also remember hearing that these are the conditions under which the beneficial bacteria thrive. You could also look for Tetra Safestart at other stores. Petsmart is the only place that carries it around me because they are the only pet store around me!
    Happy Halloween!!

Well, we went to Petsmart but my mom didn't like any of the decorations. xD We're going to try a different store on Friday. For the SafeStart, I forgot to get it. :/ It's because I saw this purple female with orange fins. And my sister was starting to get grumpy. My tank is cloudy, probably just a bacterial bloom. And my dad is going to install the hood tonight, should I keep the light on or off? Hallyx said the bacteria reproduce quicker in warm water, having the filter on high, lots of aeration, and darkness.

I'm going to Petsmart later to get some decorations so I might as well get that. I'll try to experiment it with the the one I have, thanks for everything.
