Golden pearls usually contain several different larva, fish, squid encased in air pockets to mimic live foods..not a highly processed fish food per se and I wouldn't expect them to have other ingredients, however, several on the market that have different ingredients that do include fillers. Just depends on which one you have. Same as with some of the freeze dried type foods like bloodworms-usually don't have fillers-It all depends on how, who made it.
You are correct....fillers are needed to help hold the food together otherwise they would fall apart as soon as they hit the water. Lots of things are added to fish foods and not all are bad for our fish as they are made out to be. Some additives are needed-some improve the food, stability and uptake. On your better brands of fish foods...a lot of scientific research went into the development. We hear a lot of negative thing about some fish foods-more due to that hobbyist associating a fish problem with feeding it-when it really didn't have anything to do with it.
Those are the only ones in the product.. unsure why exactly starch/grain is in foods - I have always assumed as "filler", and the grains more for digestion. The person to ask about why those are in the food would be Oldfishlady, if anyone knows, it would be her :)
