So....What is it that makes the ATI hydro sponge filter superior to other sponge filters?

Well I am established, so I suppose the stresscoat I bought will be fine for now, however, I couldn't use it during a cycle with a clear conscience /: I may be switching back to prime when I run out of stresscoat. Amquel plus doesn't detox heavy metals /:.

I have heard that some slime coat things do burn the fish to "promote" slime coat production....Pretty morbid if you ask me....

I did the math and at 4 drops a week, the 50ml bottle would last just shy of 5 years...Would it stay fresh that long?

It doesn't matter in an established, cycled tank. But for uncycled or, especially, at the beginning of the cycle it's quite important.

Don't remember having read that. Most use an irritant to promote slimecoat. I don't think Seachem does that in this product.

Prime is so often recommended here because it's ammonia detoxifier most easy to come by. If you must be a contrarian, you can use Amquel-Plus.

I believe Prime claimes to promote slime coat as well. I know stresscoat does not detox ammonia, but I don't know if that matters or not...To be honest, I also don't like the sort of monopoly seachem is running with that conditioner...but I am just one of those anti-mainstream types.

Prime detoxifies ammonia. StressCoat does not. Some people say Stresscoat is good for finrot (Salt is bad news). My stock has never had that, but I have a small bottle anyway. I'[m leery of anything that says it promotes slimecoat. I have Prime in a 100mL (3.4oz) bottle which I decant into an empty test kit bottle so I can easily dose 2 drops/gal.

So what is your opinion on Prime vs. Stresscoat+? Do you think it really makes a difference to the health of the fish? I just switched my betta over to stresscoat and I really don't know how I feel....I just switched because the bottle and dosage is more realistic for a 2.5g tank. The smallest bottle of prime would last me longer than the life of the fish, possibly double that, and I don't prefer that...
