New with Betta as well, had mine same period of time. Still experimenting with water changes, did a 50 per cent at 10 days, will lower to 25 percent next one in 7 days. I would change more often but concerned on stressing establishing even my small 1 gallon setup. Also my Marimo Algae Ball so far keeping the water clean. Make sure your water is room temperature before adding. Note I have not cleaned the gravel, will either replace it or clean in perhaps a month. I'm not a believer in cleaning gravel with baster as likely stir up unwanted bacteria up into the water. This is all my own attempts, note kept a Marine tank with 2 hardy clown fish with no water changes, had live rock. So establishing an environment can be a ticket to success. Will keep u posted. Good Luck
