They can switch genders like clownfish... Interesting, yet creepy. You gotta love mother nature. Lol Nerites don't breed in FW so that's good. But they're not in any of my pet stores, even my LFS. So Mysteries are my bet, I'll get one. Don't want any.. Infestations.

The pond snails are asexaual, so they can reproduce with themselves. Ramshorns and MTS are like this too. So, in other words, SO MANY BABIES! Apple snails and Nerites need a male and a female. lol

Yeah, the female platies can store the sperm for up to 9 months. :s Mine gave birth after 1, and the other has difficulty swimming, so I doubt she'll give birth. My only worry is that the 3 females I kept are actually females. I kept the ones with deformities in a 5.5 gallon NPT. :) With the pond snails and the mystery snail. The fin underneath their belly shows whether they are male or female. Females have it in the shape of a sea shell and males in a sword shape, it's really easy to decipher. Same goes for guppies, endlers, & mollies, maybe all livebearers! lol

Pond snails are tiny. Mine are babies, so maybe 3mm?
Definately get 1 mystery snail for no babies. I made the mistake of getting a pair of female platies. 21 babies later . . .

It's great your snails are fine. I'm sorry Velvet has internal parasites. (Based on the meds you listed) Pond Snails are pretty small, right? And yes, I'm getting a sorority. I'm cycling my 20 gallon right now, so far it took 2 days for 3ppm to go to 1ppm. I'm planning on getting a mystery snail or two, but I don't want any babies.

My snails are good. The nerite had to be taken from the 5 gallon and put in the 10 gallon community since Velvet is on metronidazole and epsom salt. Mystery Snail is doing good. Always climbs to the top of the moneywort, then falls off. hehe Pond Snails are no where to be seen. O.o I hope I haven't siphoned them in a water change. :S Aren't you setting up a sorority?
