They say moonlight and pearl gouramis will eat hair algae. Nontropical fish . . . maybe goldfish?

No, I haven't been doing the hydrogen treatments. I'll have to start up again. Thanks for telling me, I didn't know it was a continual thing.

Sadly, I'll take hair algae over black brush algae any day. At least there are fish who will eat hair algae (American Flagfish). As far as I've found, nothing eats BBA. And I still have snails. Guess I returned the clown loaches too soon. ARGH.

Well, you can have your dream of a shrimp tank, I can dream of a motoro ray . . . :D Why does fishkeeping have to be so addictive?

I think AFI can be bought online yeah. I'll also keep an eye out in the magazine itself for any subscription deals. I like both TFH and AFI but AFI tends to have a little more practical advice, whereas TFH has more informative scientific articles. Plus, it's a lot more expensive.

Hey, that's really great your dad will help you build a stand! I know when my dad built the stand for my 55gal, I probably saved over $200.

Okay, now that's just plain weird. When I followed my own link back to the page, it took me to TFH instead. All of a sudden, Amazon apparently no longer carries AFI. o.O I'll keep checking back. It could be some weird marketing thing they're trying to do, since TFH costs twice as much to subscribe to as AFI.

I'll do it on facebook, since you can't post links here.

Amazon has AFI for $14.99 subscription. I got crazy, crazy lucky. Amazon once offered it as part of their $5 magazine subscription sale. o.O

I know with RO and deionized water, it's suggested to use a mineral supplement to put back the required minerals. In fact, since my water is crazy soft, I use Seachem Equilibrium in my planted tank to raise the GH from 0 to 3. Equilibrium works, so does Kent's R/O Right.

I'll keep an eye out for any more shrimp articles in my magazines. They usually do talk about them at least once every other issue, I think.

Oh, that's good they don't NEED the RO water. Last thing you need is to have to buy another expensive aquarium accessory.

Fortunately you aren't like 6 feet tall already so a twin should be okay for now. My brother was short to average in high school but amazingly, he had a growth spurt when he got into college and now he is like 6'2 or something like that. I just know that he is tall and it bugs the heck out of me. >.<

What will you do if the shrimp DO need R/O water?
