Hey, I happened to be wondering if you had any extra live plants that cover the top of the water? (duckweed etc.) If so, are you willing to sell/give some to me? Thanks! its just that my tank is quite plain so I wanted a live plant and I don't exactly trust petsmart/co. If you don't have any, do you know anyone that does? I'll check in the classifieds too.

I know. She was soooooo proud when her daughter's betta lived for 5 months. I said that if she got a heater it could've lived longer. All the people I know plan before getting a dog but then, with smaller animals (fish, rabbits, hamsters etc.) they just get them like nothing. I'm glad the local shelter does not have adoptable fish. Many other shelters around here have fish so I asked them why they did not. The shelter said that they could not afford to have the water tested and change the water every few days so they chose not to take any in. I was glad to here that because I thought they, like everyone else, would just say that nobody wants fish or that they die off so easily.

Yeah, I wish people could think of bettas like a dog. With dogs, people plan before getting them, but bettas, not so much. Heres a current conversation I had with a friend not so long ago.
her: My daughters will be giving away goldfish for party favors.
me: Oh, okay. Rather suitable because they don't require heaters for their tanks.
her: Yeah, if they aren't chosen, they can just go in the trash because they are quite cheap.
me: *wince* But you should think about getting them a nice tank! After all, they do live awhile.
Then we spend a few more minutes debating weather or not goldfish live a long time. I walk away thinking well, they could live longer than 1 week if you knew how to care for them! Sorry for being so angry like but their are just soooooo many people that don't appreciate a living animal for who they are and think of them as "throw-away pets."

I know right? Just like you, I prefer not to sell bettas because I would hate to see them in a cheesy little "tank", half dead. LOL

Yeah, my friend gets all mad when I tell her "you should really get a heater for your 1 gallon!" Then she's like "Well, the petsmart people said they don't need any and plus, petstore associates know about all the fish!" I always wince when I hear this. lol
