Aw. That sounds pretty cool.. I always thought it'd be confusing to have like 100 fish in a pond, I'd rather get to know them since they're so smart.

I've always wanted backyard pets.. a pond or chickens. Ponds seem very high cost to start up. I'd need a large one, at least 4 feet deep, to overwinter them here too.
Do your koi recognize you specifically? :D

Just saw your pond photos.. must say your backyard is paradise. Is it a lot of work? :D

Yay! Good water for kuhlis makes me extremely happy, and discus (one day, when I have a proper tank) has been a long-term dream, so super yay. :) 6.8 pH is in my aged tank, though. I might experiment with peat moss at some point, see what effect it has...
Thanks so much for your help! :)

Sorry to bother you again, but I've made a goldfish pond question thread that I would be super grateful if you, as the resident pond expert, could have a peek at. :) It's under the habitat thread, but I have no idea how to link you there.... :(

KoiMaiden, you're a water chemistry brainbox. What sort of fish would be perfect for extremely soft water with a pH of about 6.8? :)

I'm glad to hear you say that, I feel better having to make them stay in there for a bit longer. And yeah, I can't wait to stock the tank when they move out. I'm torn between Malawi cichlids or 3 clown loaches.

Haha, since I have to pay for my computer repairs, the pond is on a temporary hold. I hope to have it running by May now. But they're in a 55 gallon now with a Fluval 405 canister filter. :)

Oh, on your thread. I did say it does look like lympho but on second thought, if there are still a lot of blackened scales then I'd put him in 1 tsp of aquarium salt for a week or so just in case it's actually an external parasite and not lympho.

Good! Live plants in my tanks was what I plan on asking for, for my birthday. (:
