Hahah I did. He said we can eat it when it gets big. And then get another one.

Bichir aren't electric.. but I just can't see a little delicate elephant nose with a big burly bichir. I also reread PFK's "10 fish the trade would be better off without" about elephant noses and I'm over them for now. Plus PFK's care guide for them.. "cyclops, rotifers, water fleas, white worms." I'd have to start a whole farm of bugs to feed the darned things.
I'll stick to my syno. And ropes and bichir and African knife, am I really regretting my awesome choices? I think it's the best set up for my interests, good variety of big guys that can go together. If the tank was 6" I'd shove an African lungfish in there too... Oh well.

I know. I had forgotten about them pretty much. But seeing them right there. Oh man. I just couldn't watch them stick their little noses into that sharp gravel. Poor things. I'm tempted to ask the LFS how much they charge per elephant nose. But I don't know.. I think I want to avoid them for now. Even though SF says they're good with bichir, I just can't see it.. But the pet store also had a 4" Synodontis alberti for only $10. At least that's what it was advertised as, and that's probably my favourite syno. If he's still there I'm gonna get him when I can.
All this time my dad's on the side lines trying to talk me into a black ghost knife... -sigh-

Yea.. but $40 each? 5 fish would run me $200 plus tax!
:'( My dad laughed at me. He thought one would be reasonable, nice centerpiece.. but when I said they like groups he laughed so much.

Thanks for your advice! I will be sure to post the pictures once I get them! I'm also getting a 4 step Goten-Zakura Kohaku. I just went to buy praziquantel and wow is it ever expensive! They both don't have khv and are raised in the same place just from different breeders. I'll be sure to post pictures of the koi asap!

I think I'll just stick to the schedule you pointed out and buy a good kit soon. I'd take it to a pet store, but the closest one is about an hour away. Thank you for all the help!

My LFS has 3 elephant noses... for $40 each. >_________> I'd throw everything away for a school of 5. NOT HAPPENING. I don't know. Seriously fish is confusing me. "It’s less easily kept with conspecifics. Buying only 2 is not recommended, as the stronger will often bully the weaker to death. If you wish to keep more than one of these you’ll need a suitably large tank with lots of hiding places. Buy at least 5 fish in order to disperse aggression within the group."
"Suggested tankmates include other African species such as Butterfly fish, smaller bichirs, Congo tetras, Synodontis catfish and Ctenopoma species."
It's soooo perfect. It's meant to be. That's my entire stocking minus the knife (electric). Waaah!

There are no live plants, and all I have to test with are Jungle test strips.

I'll let you know once I get the chance to try them. (:

I just tested Comet's tank, and the reading is weird. I mean, not bad, just weird. Hardness, alkalinity, ph, and ammonia (there is some that is always in our tap water, no matter what. I'm hoping when I start using prime this will be fixed) are all regular. Nitrites are 0 and nitrates are almost 0. It's odd. Even my Betta tank is showing a small nitrate reading by now. Water change day is tomorrow, and she's been in there a week. Any guesses as to why the nitrate reading is so low? There haven't been any spikes of anything, either.

No, frogs aren't chirping. I don't know, my frog breeding thing is a mess. The female is extremely aggressive towards the male, no one on the ADF thread knows why. I don't know if anything will actually come from it.

Monster fish blog.. but it's on tumblr so for it to be popular it needs to be a lot of photos and little words. Hahah. The tumblr is a lot lower maintenance than writing out a full blog post.
Just posted the congo puffer. What a great little oddball, a freshwater puffer. Too bad, it's probably impossible to find. I like red eyed puffers a lot too.
