Hahaha .... you're forgetful like me.

I keep notes on the dates they spawn and hatch. So I can look back to check their ages. My problem is that I forget who's who because I often mix batches (under 100). And lately mine don't breed true - adding to my confusion.

    Good luck with them.
    Make a spawn log ..........
OMG ... I forgot, I made a spawn log and never updated it.

The message was too long so I had to divide it into 2 ....

That size is big enough to breed. Though their genes may not be stable, yet you have a better chance of success compared to when they've grown 3" BO. They tend to become lazy .... not really sure because I only have one big giant.

You need to exercise him to keep him in shape..... he might become lazy like my bluey who's fighting for his life at the moment .... a full grown regular jumped into his tank and beat the hell out of him and made him infected with.... don't know what - his head is all swollen.

I miss read your message ... I thought you were talking about regulars. OK, 2.75" BO HM GIANT.... that's about 6cm.

1g wont allow him to grow fast enough. He needs to be in at least 3g, preferably filtered and regular water changes. They grow slower after 5cm/2" BO. Twice a day 6 - 10 worms is not enough to boost growth. I feed mine all they want (about 20 - 30 worms) 3 - 5 times daily and they're still not growing fast enough.

I suggest you move him to a bigger tank.... or put him in the breeding tank. That should make him grow faster. I'm guessing your female is in a sorority tank - big tank. So she will have a much better chance of growing. Your male needs an equal or bigger tank if you want him to out grow her..... So far I find males grow faster in the same tank.

To slow down growth, put the female in a small container. I often put them in a small jar and feed them less. WARNING: must do more work because you will have to do more water changes.

To increase growth, put the male in a big container/tank - preferably filtered. Feed more than usual.

hehehe.... inches is too big. cm and mm are better for bettas.

    Both ... I guess.
If they reach 3cm (BO) by 4 months, I breed them (regular bettas).

But for giants, it's safer to wait until they reach 6cm (BO) because then you will be positively sure that you will have true giant fry.
I bred a 4cm female (The blue), now the fry look so tiny.

Most People in my area will advise 5+ months, believing that at that age bettas are more genetically stable and will produce better eggs and fry. This is at least 60% true. But young bettas will spawn and can produce strong fry. But not as many as older bettas (less than 100).

I hate when that happens. I mean at least give some sort of warning that they're going to go.... lol.
Even adults often do that - they suddenly die without showing me why. I humor myself and just think that it's some sort of fish pneumonia because they're constantly wet during bad weather ... lol

Yeah it's been a while - was kinda busy.
No, I haven't got any new fry.
Anxious to see the outcome of the blue giant spawn.... they're so tiny at 4 weeks (for giants - only about 6-7mm).

Odd thing is that the green giant spawn that I thought was better than the blue, almost died out (kind of disappeared) for no apparent reason (only 2 left).

Yes, I went on Tuesday night, it was a madhouse! I got a really nice HM platinum male and black smoke male. I also got a rainbow marble HM female. I told Richard I would be back to see what is left when I have more money.
