The bacteria in the filter will stay alive for six hours with the filter unplugged. If you want to keep the bacteria alive for longer than that, remove the filter media and put it in a Gladware or Tupperware with some fish flakes and water. The fish flakes will decay and give off ammonia that will feed the bacteria. As long as it doesn't take too long to get to the dorm room, you should have most of your bacteria when you get there.

Bettas are good DRP because they'll watch everything you do as you study etc, especially if you have him on your desk.

I love Persica's color, it's so unusual. And thanks, the betta in my avatar is my first betta, Sherman. Little did I know he would be the first of ten (and counting).
