Thanks, JimJam. :) Yeah, I change a bunch of tanks. But then again, I did choose to have a bunch of male bettas who have to be kept separate soooo . . . But if you're worried about your filter intake still, try getting some loose filter wool at your LFS and stuffing it up the tube. Or see if you can get a prefilter that attaches to the tube. Mine is like a big sponge filter that I just stuck on there.
You're too hard on yourself, JimJam. You really are doing a great job. Think about how many 13 year olds there are out there who are keeping their bettas in unheated glass bowls that they never change, or who think they can cram 50 fish into a 10g. You do your research and you always err on the side of caution when stocking. You just have to remember that accidents happen and also that a lot of fish from the pet store are sick or unhealthy to begin with.
And at least one of your danios didn't count because he was deformed and really sick to begin with.
So hang in there, buddy, you're gaining plenty of experience and knowledge. :)
Tell 6 cory cats, 3 guppies, 4 platies, and over 10 platy fry that I'm a good one. Losses are inevitable when keeping fish. It happens. Even OFL loses fish to accidents. You're doing just fine, JimJam, really, you are.
A perfect name! I think it'll live. Just try and pick one that looks the healthiest. You're a good fishkeeper. After all, all your fry are still alive. Mine all died.
You could easily be right. It would be fun to try, wouldn't it? I mean, the pet stores keep almost fully grown ones together without any troubles, right? If only I had a 55g tank or bigger. I was at my LFS and drooling over the 210g tank. Oh what fun we could have stocking that.
How are the fry doing? All of mine died, even my favorite Fry-Fry. I don't think livebearers like my super soft water. I heard they like medium-hard alkaline water.
JimJam, don't let the stuff get to you. The advice you gave about angelfish is actually accurate for young angelfish. It's best to let a big group of 5 or more angelfish school together when they're young and pair up. But when they grow up, they get much more aggressive and that's when they are separated to a smaller tank. Don't let the naysayers on certain threads bring you down. As DQ told me, unless a mod tells you otherwise, you are fine doing whatever you do. Post your stocking questions in the lounge, do your research and give advice. If the others don't like it, tough. Only a mod can tell you to stop. Okay? Hang in there bud.
It's fine, as long as you don't give them too much since they have a lot of acid. I give Rosie little sips of orange juice when I happen to be drinking it. Also they're seeds are poisonous so make sure to remove them(most fruit seeds are because they have cyanide in them)
