    Thanks, Hallyx. I've gotten great response on this thread...much appreciated. I understand about the Walmart or Petsmart is all we have here. Funny thing is we have an LPS which even carries Kanaplex! yet their fish are covered in ich...very obvious when I was there every tank but the salt water. Sad.

    Thanks for your time. Sadly, I think he breathed his last earlier...not going to call it until tomorrow for sure; if he is not gone yet, my prodding him won't be comfortable, either.

    I'm not really too knowledgeable about diseases. You're getting great advice from the right people on your thread.

    In my opinion, Betta (or any fish) don't really "adapt" to high pH and hardness, they merely put up with it. They spend extra energy on osmoregulation, keeping their internal pH and parameters in balance with their environment.

    While Walmart fish are not inherently weak or inferior, the type of mass-produced (fishy-mill) fish they buy skews the odds toward a weaker fish.
