I got crazy busy for a while! Just moved to a new place and I'm in the process of setting up two NPT's. I'm down to one species at the moment, I have my 4 ocellata and their babies. I'm hoping they will spawn again once they get settled in :)
for a week and a half prior, but the male was not ready at all! He ended up kicking her butt to next Tuesday over the next 48 hours. They did try to embrace a few times but were not successful. I've pulled them both out for a reset (I was afraid the female would be killed if I left her in there any longer) and will start conditioning them again in a few days. So, no babies but I did learn things :D I figure it's better for me to do things slowly than unintentionally kill my fish in my ignorance about the spawning process.
Hey, thanks for asking :) I picked up a different pineapple female with better form from the local betta shop here after consulting with some breeders. My MG females are spunky, healthy and have beautiful coloration but their form is just not great so if I breed them at all to the Pineapple boy it'll be a single spawn only to see how many of the fry end up with daddy's form. The local shop is run by an IBC breeder with a partner in Thailand so they have access to some amazing fish. My first spawning attempt was a bit of a disaster because the female jumped out of her isolation jar into the main breeding tank waaay too early. She was showing vertical bars and the fish were conditioned (con't)
Thank you, I majored in English literature (as well as sociology). I am learning as I go with bettas, I have owned them before but I'm now throwing myself into the hobby! I hope to be in a place where I'm ready to start breeding 6 months from now :)
