Hmm... Idk, 1 inch is pretty darn big! Most of the snails mine eat are super tiny, no bigger than 1/2 inch at most. Plus collecting food from the wild, while nutritious, does pose some risks. There are a lot of parasites that your fish can get from eating these things. The frozen bloodworms or brine shrimp are probably a better option for now. Or the wingless fruit flies.

I have access to a local pond that has hundreds of great pond snails that are simple to catch. they are usually about an inch long, do you think that might work?

The only way you get snails is with live plants, so you might not get any unless you decide to go that route. It is very rewarding, but plants aren't for everyone, plus not all bettas hunt snails. Only one of my two does! They end up being pests for most people.

thank you for your great advice on feeding my bettas! you're right, only about two of the pellets would fit on his eye. I'll feed blood worms less,I'm also going to hydrate them. and I'll try it out with the snails. thanks again, Saphira
