oh hey, didn't even think of them :P he should be super healthy then XD
yes. ON the leaf :P I didn't either >< after I took it out and ran my finger on it I realized how sharp it felt even to me though, so to him it must have been horrible D: I don't know why on earth they don't just stick them INSIDE the leaf, or make silk stems or something, I mean what's the point of a silk plant supposedly safe for bettas if you stuff a giant chunk of sharp plastic on the under side of it? >.< especially because they love to get in and under them. :( if you don't wanna uproot it just rinse your hand and arm well with hot water and shake it off in case of chlorine and reach in, remember to make sure you don't have any bracelets or sprays on though ^-^ trying to re-plant them with the water can be a pain XD; and stressful for the fish if it's skittish and not used to random giant psychos re-arranging their tank :P

haha, that's the one upside of living somewhere hot, I'm sure he loves it :D
can he get underneath the leaf of the silk plant though? I had some in front of his filter at one time to baffle it and he got behind them and cut his fin on the back of the leaf >^> just a thought ^-^
I could see you're hunch being right if it was a bit rough and he head-butted it though. I love them but they do the dumbest things sometimes ^-^
and since it seems to be turning darkish it could be a little wound, definitely. :D
so glad it's probably nothing drastically wrong :D

We had a cool night last night but when i saw his temp hit 73 i put a heater in, otherwise it doesnt fluctuate much, Florida with no AC in his room pretty much keeps him warm. The plant he does have is silk but buried under gravel pretty well, The oak leaf id thrown in because id read it releases good things into his water, little did i know hed body slam it :)) it was dried out and alittle rough around the edges, im thinking more and more it was the culprit. Next week i plan to put some live plant in (java moss) and slowly remove his fake plant. Hes out of most sunlight, always in a shady corner of my house with no windows. Thanks again for the reassurance! :)

and yur, clean water + high 70's to low 80's and he shouldn't be able to get it, no direct sun?
velvet is by cold or uneven temps, which is why I'm scared mine will get it, and dirty water helps. but you don't seem to have either so ><

ohh, and is the plant live or silk? if it's silk check the underside, all the ones I've ever seen have really hard plastic on them underneath, he could've hit that, if it is a missing scale and not velvet.. ><

Thanks, i hope so too, his water is always clean at least so im thinking its probably a scratch, i watched him a bit more and he was bitting at the floating leaf so i took it out, maybe he just played alittle too rough and it scraped his head. If it is velvet it must be in very early stages at least, ill be watching the forums and him like a hawk! :))

oh geeze no, I'd being freaking, I'm always scared mine'll die XD; I'm so anxious for him to perk up and recover from the pet store cup so I can tell when there's something wrong :'3 I have no doubt I've spammed every betta forum out there :P
yeah, since it's on the face I'd say definitely post it, as that's where velvet starts,
not to mention I'm not sure if missing scales are pink or just an off-shade off the rest of the body color, because several of my little guy's scales are off-color and odd-looking, but not pinkish D:
I've heard they can get scraped on even live plants :/ but mine hasn't been bugged by them and he's pretty good at getting himself wedged into odd spaces.. best of wishes for him, if it is velvet you caught it good and early, nice job paying attention to your fish's signs :D

also if you can get it to show on picture, you might post it anyway.... COULD be velvet, but I'm not sure.
