Oh shoot, I already used the Aquarium Salt for the 10gall. I'm just a bundle of anxiety with my boy's open-wounded/strange right ventral fin and his tailbiting, so I decided to fill up the rest of the tank and put some AQ to use. There won't be any dire consequences, will there? Or do l have to take him out of there?

Hmm, I don't think I can get any stress coat anytime soon, but I will do my best to keep the water clean. I'm assuming near-daily water changes in the 10gall for the next several so-and-so days? :o

I also -do- have frozen bloodworms in my fridge, but they've been sitting there for months because I was uncertain about them for a few reasons. I don't suppose they have an expiration date?

    Thank you~

My hospital/nursery is in the bathroom too! Right now it has 8 occupants. I'm happy to hear that your new guys are adjusting-yeah :) Poor Crichton :( I have yet to encounter a worm situation from a rescue, but I'm sure it'll happen one day. It sounds like you're both trying so hard, it'd be sad to lose him after all of this. My fingers are crossed that he turns the corner and can recover, but I know the pineconing isn't a good thing (on top of everything else).

Thanks! Mags is hanging on. I think I saw a bit of new growth today! She loves resting on her little leaf. I'm hoping she's not a tail biter since the new growth is a bit ragged looking. If she was not getting getting enough food before, she may have done that (or anxiety/stress). I'm trying to keep her on a good feeding schedule without giving her too much.

I hope your babies get/stay healthy! I'll be thinking good thoughts for Crichton.

    Merry Christmas-at least officially here-CST!

He's such a poor pathetic guy right now. No more vomiting in over 3 hours, so that's an improvement. But he's so lethargic that he won't get out of my/his bed. He's slept with me every night since I've had him. If I ever get married, my husband would just have to learn how to deal ;) I have waterproof pads down and towels so that my blankets don't get messed from his leaky back end. He didn't even bother to get up and pee, just laid there in it. He never does that. Now I have to figure out how to get him up without upsetting him and change things out so it's less gross. The things we do for our babies! I was concerned he was dehydrated from before and I haven't seen him drink anything since this morning, but that was a decent amount of pee, so I'm less worried about that. If he's not better tomorrow, we may end up in the animal ER. We have a good one, just pricey! If not, his vet is open Monday. I won't wait if it's an emergency & pay the extra-I call him my "first born".

Yes yes! Those are the 'freckles' I spoke of. :)

And urgg, I came home at about 9:40PM to see that my betta had 'teeth marks' at the end of his caudal tail fin. There was also a floating thin piece of gravel in the tank o.o I think it might have been that he was in total 'darkness' since about 5PM today; he's not used to it being dark until about 12AM-3AM when I turn off his aquarium light. (I did not turn his light on for his first afternoon today in the 10gall because the incandescent bulbs seem to make it hot and I don't want to risk temperature fluctuations.)

Betta fish are very sensitive to day/night schedules, I'm assuming? I'm guessing he may have gotten a little moody that 'nighttime' arrived hours earlier than usual and bitten at his tail out of stress?

Also with this new injury to his tail should I Aquarium Salt the 10gall? And if so could you instruct me on the procedure?

Sorry to trouble you so much!

    Hi Sakura!

Sorry I haven't replied sooner. My cat, Jack, is very sick. He's almost 12 and has had some serious health problems pretty much his entire life. Another rescue ;) One of my first actually. We were at the vet this morning, he does have a UTI. But he's had some complications and they had to draw blood work on him and give him a high dose injection of antibiotics and IV fluids. Since he's been home, it's been non-stop vomiting. And he's crying in pain at times, breaks my heart-poor baby.

How are your newbies today? Come to think of it, I've never gotten to pick the tail either due to rescues. I "lucked" out with the fact that Ty was a King that was in bad shape. 16 is a lot! I'm at 14 and am feeling the pressure. I'm sure you feel the same in that you want to make sure they all get the best care. Good luck with them & keep me posted!

What's Crichton's story? I'll keep my fingers crossed that he holds on and continues to fight hard :)

    Merry Christmas!

    (part 2)

Also when I look really closely, he has, especially on his dorsal fin, little tiny black dots. But perhaps they are for him something like freckles for us people?

Wow on Riceball's change--that is pretty crazy. It's a great change too, it looks so natural with the way only the tips are reddened. He looks elegant. :] I can only hope the same is happening to my own betta fish.

Yes, when I read that about BettaFix I was sort of shocked. The companies sell this stuff and market it directly toward betta fish--they wouldn't risk killing betta fish would they!? D: Though I did discontinue it before finishing my 2nd week of medicating my betta.

and ACTUALLY -- before, when he was in the 1.5 gall for several months, YES. He would get random fin tears at times. But they weren't anything that looked to be 'rots'. More like, he bit a random chunk off when I wasn't looking. It was always one tear at a time, never more. At other times his fin (especially his caudal fin) would be slit across as if he cut himself. When first owning him I made the mistake of putting those beginner artificial plants inside his tank. They injured his tail because he was always zooming around in that tiny area with them. Nowadays he hardly gets tail injuries; maybe he sometimes did that to himself out of stress (/accidents in small spaces)?
