My alarm clock (AKA Jack) decided he'd had enough of mom being upstairs and he was crying big time. My phone is not cooperating tonight, so hopefully this comes out okay. Yes-I'm allergic to sulfa drugs and nuts! Bad reactions on both-not fun. I feel like I should live in a bubble at times ;)

I'm hoping Mags does okay. I'm hoping to not make her feel worse. I don't know what to do if she comes through all of this with no tail. It'll be a bridge that I'll be extremly lucky to have to cross one day. She's a fighter for sure :)

    I have tough pets-in a good way-they don't give up easy!

I had no idea that she would have survived this long. The redness around where her tail stump was is lightening and she looked interested in the food, even if she didn't eat it. Should I bump her AQ levels at all? We're still using 2 teaspoons to the gallon. I'm being super cautious to not spread this. The last thing I need is a bad outbreak and taking that kind of hit. I've got 2 other females with bad rot & little ones. I'm hoping that she either passes tonight or seems better tomorrow. I'm thankful today wasn't any worse. Couldn't believe there weren't any vets who would do it in my area! I'll update you tomorrow-thanks for all the help & for understanding that I couldn't euthanize her myself.

In the end, I know I can't put her down myself. I'm too afraid I wouldn't do it right & make a bad situation worse. I wouldn't be able to decapitate her & end it quickly. So, I guess nature will have to take it's course. I'll intervene how I can. In the meantime, I can keep her warm, clean & loved. I know Sena thinks it's better if I just do it, but I can't. If someone else was doing it, no problem. I can't even kill bugs!

Hi! Mags is still hanging on. She looks maybe a little better than last night, but not by much. I know they can sometimes look better before the end, but her breathing is better. If she's still there tomorrow, I'll start her on the meds. I'm allergic to sulfa drugs, so I may need to avoid those (esp w/out health ins for me right now-full time student). I'm going to try the tetracycline & keep up with the AQ. Thanks for the dosage instructions! She's not in much water since she can't swim well at all (slightly better today) and has problems surfacing. She's been less on her side today and still looks BAD, but is holding. Maybe she wants to fight?

So Mags survived the night & the infection doesn't seem to be progressing anywhere near as fast. However, since her case is still so severe, I began calling vets to see about having her put down. Not a single one within a 25 mile radius would agree to do it! And it's considered animal cruelty for me to do it in this county (according to one of the receptionists I spoke to on the phone-most just laughed at me). So, Mags is living in "hospice" care here until she passes. I changed her water with the higher AQ levels and now it's just wait & see. I may stop by Petsmart on the way to the studio tonight and see what antibiotics they have. She's in such shallow water that it would be extremely hard to dose. I want to do right by her & end her suffering, but my hands are tied :(

Good luck Sakura! Hopefully the kitchen facelift will move quickly and you'll be able to prepare water easier again. Good luck with the community tank! I've never used anything other than gravel for substrate, so I imagine it's tough.

Collin is improving! However when I was cleaning Mags' tank yesterday I noticed more of her tail is missing. Looks like she might be a tail biter after all. She's at least in clean & warm water now, but I really want to get her as healthy as possible. Without a tail, she won't be able to handle her new bigger tank. Her dorsal and ventral fins still have minimal growth. Should I repeat the AQ? She seemed to be leaving it alone when I was doing that. I'm already doing that for the 2 girls I picked up the other day with bad rot.

Hope you had a good weekend! My friends kept me out too late last night & I had to be at work at 6:00 a.m. today (with a slight hangover). It's been months since I've gone out, and it wasn't much, but enough ;)
