I haven't been on in a while, things going smoothily with my tank so I've sucked all the info I could from the forum. I've just wanted to fill you in on my 29g since adding the Hagan cannister yeast C02 system. I've been DIY the yeast recipe's from some online research and I've gone from like 2 stems of Wisteria to an entire half of my back wall is stuffed full of wisteria. I just hacked them all in half but I must have like 12-15 stems that reach 3/4 to the top. the other plants are lush and green, java moss, java fern on my driftwood have almost completely covered the top of it. So CO2 is awesome like steroids for body builders.

I got some Hygrophila Angustifolia. Its like a hygro/val hybrid. We'll just have to see how it does. Also I orderd the Hagan yeast, CO2 system. I'll have to keep you updated since today I added my first fish. A few freebie hand-me-down guppies from a friend since the cycle crashed. I figure jumpstarting the plants with CO2 and some Seachem Fluorish will get things going naturally.

The hygro sheds a lot? Is that why you removed yours? I was looking to add some type of Hygro as my center piece. Well polysperma is illegal and corymbosa looks similar. If they are a lot of trouble maybe I'll stay away. Would snails take care of the shedding?

I meant to ask, what is the species of your Hygro? It looks similar to a polysperma and since I can't get a polysperma I'd like one similar. Is it corymbosa?

I dont have any pictures of my current set up since the move. I'm upgrading to a smartphone this week and I'll for sure have video and pictures up by the end of the week. I'm still looking at C02 systems, I'm scared because they either go for $30 or $300 so I'm wondering how effective the cheap ones are. You said that you made your own from a paintball set up? or was that someone else. I think since I'm adding it to a 29g I should not need anything too fancy.

If Phantom's fins are falling off in huge chunks or seeming like they're melting, it's probably fin rot. Depending on what kind of substrate you have, you might even see bits of fin in the tank if it's fin rot. If the missing pieces seem small, it's probably wear and tear. I hope he doesn't lose too much of his fins during the spawning to come. I'm glad to hear Sloth has healed up but I wonder why Phantom hates her? He must want to be a bachelor still. He probably realizes he'll have to do all the work after the spawning. "Crazy female, she's not the one who has to pick up all the eggs and put them back in the nest each time they fall."

Quick questions: what kind of substrate did you use for your planted tank?

Hi Nex, I missed you too. Glad to hear your planted tank is taking off. I hope Phantom's fins heal up quickly. He has such gorgeous fins, he wouldn't be the same without them. How is Sloth doing?

Sherm is doing good, he thanks you for asking about him. He's in QT with salt and Vita-Chem for his fins; honestly, they're too long so they're really ratty and feathered. He's sulking though. He won't come up to eat, he makes me stick my hand in the water and deliver his bloodworm directly to him.

Let me know the next time you're in CA, maybe someday we can meet somewhere (like maybe the Monterey Bay Aquarium?).

O.O Ooh, bad Phantom. I had no idea black orchids could do that, I thought the melano gene prevented color changes. I'm glad you and the fish are okay. I hope the hurricane doesn't bother you either. Stay safe! :)

Hey Nex, heard about the earthquake in VA. Are you there right now? Hope you and your fish are okay. Let me know so I don't worry.

Yes, history education to be a teacher :3 but no no, in nyc! :3 it was boring though, too many people.
And yeah, the very same sleep thing. Essentially, you're starving your body of rem so badly that it learns to go into it immediatley, even for a nap! Just....stay up. Dont sleep. Only nap! After a while, itll just...work x,x
