I'm glad you were able to rescue him from a 10gal. Hmm, I think I may just put minnows in mine too. I just can't keep up with the nitrates of 2 koi and a comet in a 300gal pond and I feel so bad that they're living in that. My koi are such brats, they never come up to the surface like other koi do.
I got him from a costumer at petsmart, she was keeping her oscar and sunfish(who we all thought was a blue gill until a few days ago lol) in a 10g tank together. I kept telling her she needed a larger aquarium and after 2 months I finally said I'll take the "blue gill" and put him in my little pond. She was went and got him and brought him back right away, and was only around 3" at the time, now he's around 5"-6". They are pretty cool and super hardy. I don't think you would see them anymore than your Koi though, I have to empty the pond just to find mine lol
I keep flat head minnows in the smaller pond that I have, they are really cute and the albino flatheads are easily seen. I don't really do anything with mine. They eat bugs, mosquito larvae, and algae. I've had the same minnows for over a year.
I found someone with a big pond to take my koi, makes me happy since I saved them from being turtle/fish food.
You have a sun fish? Awesome! I've only seen pics of them, they're so pretty. I also like the pumpkinseed fish. I'm actually thinking about rehoming my koi (I never see them and they produce so much waste) and putting minnows or other coldwater fish in the pond.
Wow, that must be a bit scary keeping him in the garage. At petsmart a guy had a outdoor tropical pond, he had 4 heaters for it!
I recently brought my green sun fish/or blue gill inside. I haven't seen this fish at all for 6+ months, it hides so well. I brought him in so I can get him eating pellets and just so I can actually see him for a week or two before he vanishes again lol
Woot, now I can keep track of Rosie! That's awesome she's been doing so well with her training. Go Rosie!
Haha, Sparky is doing well although I've been so worried about him over the winter. Because his tank is in the garage, it can get really cold. I have two 200w heaters and insulation around his tank and it still got down to 70 F. I guess all of his fat acts as blubber and insulation because he's doing fine.
Everything with me has been busy XD Rosie's training has been going awesome though, she's been flying really good and has a lot of confidence. Yesterday she flew to me when I called her! Before I would have to say "bye bye" and act like I would leave", it's such a huge leap in her recall training. When my tax return comes in I'm going to take her for a check up, it's going to be a very dramatic difference from the first time I took her.
I've been keeping her tumblr updated, it's

How's your electric catfish been? That fish was soooo cute!
The water lily I have is a Manglaka Ubol(Nymphea hybrid) water lily. The leaves don't get too huge but bigger then they get in my aquarium. In the 48 so far it still grows really good but seems to stay smaller. Maybe it's the quality of light or from not being potted(no way that pot was going in my tank lol so muddy)
