Hey Gwen!! Just wanted to check in on you and see if you had any luck coming up with tankmates for your male gourami. Hope all is well!!!

From what I understand with meaner and larger gourami the best tankmates are supposably similar sized yet non-aggressive and non-nippy tankmates. I'd look through the profiles of some of the rasbora species. One not listed but is pretty easy to find that I think would work well is the brilliant rasbora, if you like the look of it of course, lol. :) I read up on the cardinals, and it says they are a good match for rarer gourami, which I am assuming is because of their ability to be safely kept in higher temps. Some larger barbs like Odessas might be okay with him, if the tank size and such is workable for them that is. Keep me posted on any changes or new tankmates!!! :)

I'd have to look into it regarding a gourami with cardinals. I know they dont recommend the ones we have with neon tetras, so I would think it might be the same for the cardinals since they are so similar in size and behavior. However, my female gourami is in with 5 neons and 5 small cherry barbs and she doesnt mind them at all...then again she is female and still getting use to the tank and me, but she took to the neons quickly. My gouarmi actually likes to play with my 2 emerald cories and runs up and down the sides of the tanks with them as if she was one. Have you thought about cherry barbs? I find my gourami doesnt go near them and vice versa.

My gourami is doing wonderful and has already grown to nearly twice the size she was at purchase! Thanks for asking, Gwen!!! Yeah, I know what you mean about not wanting to pay over a certain amount for a fish!!! Have you considered any other fish species that can get along with your water parameters and current stock?

Thanks for the compliments! Yeah, dwarf cichlids arent as hardy as the other non-dwarf cichlid species (minus a few). Hopefully you can save the lil guy!!! And I really appreciate your experience with your female gouarmi, it really helped me decide!!

Sounds like you're having a good time with your new fish! :) I'm going through a rough patch. Seems that one of my fish caught a bacteria, and a few others died last week, no illness, just died. So i'm thinking I need to by some fish antibiotics. Take care and use my personal email next time, if you need assistance. Guess you can't send email addresses in here for some reason but its teddz7 at gmail.com
Take care "Gwen in NM", ha ha

LOL Yeah, the DPs are awesome. Originally that was what my 5 gal was going to house, but finding DPs is very hard where I am (although there are plenty of GSP, I dont wish to go that large or brackish). Yeah, my hubby thinks I have lost it too. He thought my new 15 gal was to replace my 5 gal all together, bursted his bubble and informed him the 5 gal was going to go to the bedroom. He was happier when I mentioned shrimp or a crab in it, as that is more his level of fish interest, lol. Let me know what you do and post pics! DPs are awesome, and if I ever come across them in one of my LFS, they will come home with me immediately. If you need any info on them let me know, I have researched them to no end and am fully educated on them!
