Yeah I'm hopping that was Commies problem. Blackout I had to put down. Since the day I got him he was never quite... okay. Never managed to shake the swimming problem I got him with. But he ate, bubble nested, flared, and moved and seemed rather happy even though at times he would have problems. Then about a year in he just tanked in health. He stopped eating and nothing I did helped so I couldn't just let him slowly starve to death. Hardest thing to do ever.
Sorry I'm like unloading on you. :/ My family just stared at me strangely when I cried over a fish so they were useless to talk to.
Did you get them at Petco too? It's more than possible both were a year old by the time you got them. A lot of pet store bettas are ex-breeders so they're usually 6-12 months old by the time the pet stores get them. That would make Commie and Blackout both 2 when they died which is a pretty good age since the average lifespan of a betta is only 1-3 yrs. It sounds like Commie maybe just died in his sleep of old age, through no fault of yours. Same with Blackout.
Thank you, that kinda makes me feel better acutally. I felt so guilty just a month ago when my fish Commie, for no reason at all, passed away. The night before he was happy and swimming. Active with nice colors and was eating and then... in the morning he was just gone. Water was checked after and there was nothing wrong with it. Blackout had passed right before him too. It was devastating. I only had them for a year each.
I think he caught something else that being stressed by the ich made him prone to. I still have no idea what happened to him but he's over it now and is back to a healthy coloration. I swear Kordon Ich Attack saved his life. That and obsessive water changes lol
Poor little guy, that sounds awful and I bet it looked horrible, too! I didn't know ich could turn their bodies transparent. Wow, I'm really glad he survived. What a little fighter.
I got him from the bad petco around me too - not the good one that always has lovely fish.
Yeah he got amazingly ill actually. He got ich that kicked off some strange discoloring all over his body and he started to turn translucent. Where his tail met his body it turned dark and it started to creep across him slowly. I was so panicked nothing I did had any effect for the longest time. :/
I can't believe he's a Petco boy! He looks awesome! What a great find. I'm sorry to hear he he got sick but I'm glad he survived. *whew!* That's good news.
Ha ha that sounds like something my father would do *laughs* And acutally Xochipilli was a petco baby. Super washed out when I got him and rather sad looking. But I fell in love. Proper care really brought out his colors and now he's such a lovely red. sadly a few months back he got really sick and wrecked his tail. Ah well c: He lives in his own 10 gallon now and the regrowth has finally started to speed up. It will never be the same but as long as he's healthy right?
Haha, thanks. My dad actually named him that. He likes to sit in his tank and pantomime eating by opening and closing his mouth every time he sees me looking at him. He's a goof. Is Xochipilli an AB betta? Super gorgeous, I'm jealous.
