So true. It never occurs to a doctor that you're depressed BECAUSE you're sleeping so much, not the other way around. :P

It's good you and your mom stood firm because sometimes doctors don't always listen to their patients. >.> These days, with the amount of information out there, patients are more informed than ever and I think some doctors don't realize that.

Yeeaah, over a year for mono would be some kind of medical anomaly. o.O I agree, that's kind of interesting he thought of that as a possibility.

I wonder if the vitamin D deficiency is related to narcolepsy. I'm glad you were able to get a good diagnosis, Ajones. :) And also glad it wasn't mono. My bro had that and it's not fun.

Haha. :) Funny you should ask that, since I'm just recovering from another sleeping bout (from 11 Am yesterday to 6 AM this morning). I did go to the doctor and had a blood test and he diagnosed a severe vitamin D deficiency. So I've been taking the vitamin D and it seemed to help for two months and now I'm back to the marathon sleeping. I think it's time to take him up on his referral to the sleep doctor. >.> I put it off because the vitamin D seemed to be working but that was probably a mistake.

    How have you been?

Uggggh. 5 hours at night, then slept from 9:30 AM till 8:30PM yesterday (Saturday). It may not be narcolepsy but it sure can't be normal. To all those who think sleeping all day is fun I say it's soo not all it's cracked up to be. >.<

Thanks for telling me about what to expect for the dr. appt. That helps calm my nerves for sure. That's crazy you were even dreaming in class. Wow. I don't know how fast I hit REM but I know that neither my mom or my dad usually remember their dreams at night and I remember all of mine because they're so vivid and frequent.

Thanks for the info, Ajones. :) I usually only sleep about 4 hours at night, wake at 6:30AM and then return to sleep for another 4-5 hours a few hours later. But then I am often still very sleepy later in the day. I really have no idea what's up with my sleep patterns. I have an appointment with a sleep neurologist in November so hopefully I can figure it out. When you sleep in REM, that's when most dreaming occurs, right? I have very vivid dreams pretty much every night. I don't know if that means anything.

Doesn't narcolepsy hit like really fast, like boom, you're instantly asleep? I go through periods where, a few times a month, I will get overwhelmingly sleepy and sleep for 20+ hours. Fell asleep during dinner once, at a restaurant. Narcolepsy or chronic fatigue syndrome?
