To improve finnage, breeders mix breed giants (originally fighter style)to SQ regulars. It takes time to get them giant size again. And when they do get giant size, then they cross them tp SQ regulars again..... and so on until they get SQ giants. So there are many "giant" that only reach 6cm (2"+) in my country.
But I've heard that TRUE GIANTS .... I mean the actual giants, can grow 2.5" in 2-3 months. (I missed the auction a few months ago). So I think the true giants will grow due to genes no matter what. And the half giant(?) or the "fake" giants won't.
Yes there mine.
I know what u mean.
Giant tend to get sick easier then there small counter part.
Plus there really lazy when full grown.
But oh will Ive like the giant.
Yeah all sibling still in the same tank.
That's why I wasn't interested in Giants .... my group wasted a lot of money buying from Thailand.... but none grew that big. So I thought it couldn't breed true.
No I haven't seen giants that size either. Only hear stories. But I've seen 8cm/3"+ BO
Were they your fry? If so, you have true giants...... congrats. Keep them in 5g filtered tanks and they should keep growing. Be careful though because it's said that they are more sensitive to diseases when they get older/bigger.
Giant descendants will grow quickly until they're 4cm (almost 2") BO. Then some of them .... if not all..... will suddenly stop growing. Some will grow at a much slower rate and reach 5cm. The true giants should have reached 5.5cm by 4 months. So if by 4 months your fry doesn't reach that size, it will unlikely grow to 4".
So far, even 6cm/+2" BO giant spawn doesn't produce true giants..... making me understand more and more of the difficulty in breeding them.
