Hi. :) Sorry that I haven't been on in awhile. I wish that I had something to tell you. The girls who didn't have the parasites before still seem to be clean, but the others still seem to. Neither of them are better or worse. :/
Garlic! I didn't think of that. I'm confused though, do you mean to feed them only garlic? Or other foods as well? Sorry if this is a dumb question...you mean soak them in garlic, right? Will dehydrated garlic work until I get to the store? I've checked the ingredients and it's just garlic.
Bleaching would definitely do a great deal. But as far as the treatment for tapeworms (or any other gastro-intestinal parasites, which these seem to be)... be prepared to do a bit of work. Not to scare you, but it is quite time consuming.
Once you've seperated all of your girls, I'd do 100% daily water changes with a teaspoon of aquarium salt per gallon for ten days. As for food, crush up some garlic (quite a bit, maybe four cloves or so), put a day or two's worth of food for all of your girls, and put it in the microwave for 30 seconds. Feed normally. They may take a few days to get used to the pellets, but they will eat them eventually.
I'm sorry you're having trouble with all this... good luck and keep me updated! If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.
Thanks for answering. :) Tapeworm, huh? Yikes. :O
When Cora and Dakota began to show symptoms I took them out of the 10 gallon sorority (a good thing, since Cora ended up dying the next day. :[) When Zippity started showing symptoms as well (nooooo! not Zippity! :/) I separated the whole bunch. I have a couple of three gallons that could possibly be used for quarantine for the three that I think are all right (till then they're in canning jars that I change every day) Some days appear to be better than others, as far as the infected ones--somedays it seems like they're fine, and others I don't expect them to make it through the night. Dakota was pineconed once but then they went away. :/
I need to take down the tank and bleach everything. I really hope that that gets rid of everything.
