Dropsy is a symptom not a disease in of itself....usually related to bacterial infection, kidney failure, fatty liver to name a few...but generally nearly always related to poor water quality as the root cause that compromises the immune response and in turn shut the system down and the fish swells up and death soon follows......

If caught and treated early and depending on the root cause...sometimes the fish can recover...but its rare.....once they stage out the system is compromised.....

I was just wondering if you ever successfully treated betta with dropsy. I heard it's deadly and there is no real treatment for it

I was so disappointed because it was the biggest in the spawn, about 4x the size of its siblings. I don't know what made it grow so fast.

    Thanks for the info! :D

Its hard to say...especially without more information...but, generally, yes, you can overfed fry, but usually it is more related to some type of pathogen and often boils down to immunity issues with sudden death even when all the other fry seem fine....immune response.......

Hi OFL!! Nice to have you here again! :D

Can overfeeding kill betta fry? I have a 1.5cm that died in front of my very eyes. It was very healthy and was swimming properly when it just suddenly jerked around and died. It only took about a minute to go from healthy to dead. I cancel out bacterial infection as the other fry with it are all doing well.

What are your thoughts on this? thanks so much!

Hi back at ya Guppy luver...

newbie32-sorry, I don't use OTC medication so I can't be of much help with it-once started it is important that you complete the course per label direction..........if he doesn't improve and you feel your Betta is suffering from both fungus and external parasites I would recommend high dose of aquarium salt 3tsp/gal along with 100% water changes daily and tannins, water temp 76-77F area, aeration in the form of an airstone while in QT...sorry I couldn't be of more help.....good luck....

It was suggested that I speak to you about my fish problems. My betta is lying on the gravel, hardly ever swims around, isn't eating and generally is acting strange. He now has a ball of white stuff on one of his gills. It almost looked fuzzy. Then I noticed there are a couple of other white specks. I was guessing ick. I purchased Jugle Lifeguard. It's supposed to be some medicine for when you don't know exactly what your fish has. I have treated him today. I will treat him tomorrow. This strange behavior has been going on almost since I got him. I need some help! Any wisdom to share with me?
