Oh have 14 fish in a 5gal tank....both the ammonia and nitrite are too high...make water changes until you get them 0.25ppm or less...Ideally 0ppm is what you want......what specie of fish do you have in this tank......what kind of test product are you using...
Edit..I think I read that wrong it is 20 long not 20L or stocking is fine....but the levels are not....what kind and how many plants and how are the fish acting...

I must give you my thanks!! I still have some questions in regards to the acceptable levels of chemistry. Right now my readings are:
    Ammonia .5
    PH 7.0
    Nitrite 2.0
    Nitrate 2.0

Is this the good, the bad, or the ugly?

bunches of plants, 14 fish, several MTS, 20L tank
    Lighting is twin tube
    Heat is at 78

The root tabs should be enough...adding kitty litter may make a really big mess to an established tank....If you have native clay in your area-you can make clay balls, dry in the sun and then cram them around the base of the plants....but the root tabs every month to 3 month should be enough...and I would only use 1 at a time.....too much can cause algae issues.....

Hey, OFL. Just a quick Q...

I have a planted 10 gallon tank that is my "baby". I just added a Melon Sword that is just gorgeous and fully grown. It needs some extra iron and such (obviously). I put in 2 root tabs around it. Would it be possible to use some of that clay kitty litter under it as an extra "iron boost"? Or what else would you suggest?

Hi OFL, How are you and your tanks. I think my tank is starting to stabilize. There is hardly any gas buildup anymore. The nitrates are finally dropping on it's own. It went from 40 ppm down to 5ppm. Ammonia and nitrites are always zero. I'm getting more plants in the next couple of days. I just hope I can fit them as my existing plants have grown so huge. The duckweed is still in there. I scoop some of it out as it's starting to populate in there. Everything that's living in the tank seems bright and happy. (New betta, neons, shrimp, and the MTS and the sneaky pond snails. Since you've helped me so much, I just wanted to give you a follow up on the tank :D Hope you are well! I've posted a picture of the tank in my gallery if you'd like to see :D

In how much water i should keep my turtle?
I have bought two red eared slider baby turtles and i am keeping them in 12 by 12 inch of fish tank and i was told by the shop keeper not to keep turtle in water, only the water should be till their legs to feel wet, keeping turtles in water will make their eyes blurred. So i have this question that whether i should keep them in water or in the way as the shop keeper has told me. Please help as i am very concerned about my turtles.
