- I just wanted to say thank you again for all of your help! I went back to lurking and picked up a new betta today. :) I'm hoping to be more active here this time.
- Hi OFL! I read many of your posts. If you have a minute would you please weigh in on a thread I just posted in the habitat area regarding moderating current on a sponge filter? What I did is explained there with pics in my new album new tank. I value your opinion and want to make sure what I'm doing on this new sponge filter works without defeating the filtration somehow. Thanks if you have time to weigh in.

- OFL, I had a very strange case of fin nipping. My fish eventually ended up dying--even though he was fine this morning. His tank mate (divided 10 gallon) is not exhibiting any signs of strange behavior. I have only seen this particular fish nip himself today. He wouldn't even come up for air and just continue to turn in circles, so I imagine that he suffocated. It is so upsetting. Is this common? Should I worry about the other fish in the tank?
- 02-11-2013 03:30 PM - permalinkFishFriend9292I saw the post you had on the forum, npt challenge, and I think that in the tank that will only hold 4 inches of water, you should add some newts of something that live in the water and on land. You would just have to add some rocks for them to climb up on. Just an idea, but let me know if you try it out!

- I purchased a Betta abt 7 months ago. His home: 5 gal heated filtered tank, 2 live plants & rocks substrate. 100% water changes abt every month. Roughly 1-1/2 weeks ago, he started acted funny. He would come up to eat but not eat, or spit it out. Then, no interest in food & started laying down on the bottom with his body half flopped over & VERY pale. I thought he was constipated. Now he is in a smaller container with epsom salt that floats in his tank. He has been in 1 quart of epsom salt water (daily changes) for 6 full days now with no improvement, breathing a little heavy, no eating or pooping. I saw a silver shiny spot near his face tonight. His face below his mouth has become gray, like an older dogs. His face being gray has been there for a over a month. He used to be quite feisty and flare alot, even at his own reflection where the filter sits. He has blown his fins several times which have not "healed". I do not see his scales sticking out. Is there any saving this poor guy?
- 01-30-2013 05:10 PM - permalinkBettaGurl79Dear Fish Lady =) I have a small question I was hoping you could answer for me. I have a 10 gallon tank that has a filter. I only run the filter when I am home fearing that it will suck up or hurt my Male Veil tail, Flotsom. Is this going to affect the health of my lil guy? I do bi weekly 25-75% water changes. I have a few live plants so I try to avoid the full 100% change.
- Ok, thanks! Where do you obtain your plants?
