OK. I'll get a light if possible. My tank has a hood and LED lights and I normally don't use it. Thanks for helping me! I hope my cycle goes well, despite I don't have the test kit. ~LTB

OK, thanks. So they're called diatoms? I don't necessarily have a tank light. Lebron's tank is in my kitchen and the light is on around 10 hours a day. I'll turn it off and on it when necessary. Thanks for answering my questions. Is there another way to control the diatoms? ~LTB

Hi OFL, I have a question regarding my fish-in cycle... Can I do a 100% change on my tank before I put the filter in? It's just that, my fake plants need a washing and my barrel has this brown gooey thing on some spots of it. It can be washed away, though. I already read your Betta specific cycle thread, too. Lebron also has a missing scale so I think that'll help with it growing back. Thanks! ~LTB

Hi OFL I was wondering if it matters what type of Oak Leaf that can be be used ? Is there any reason to use them other then having a sick fish ? Perseus is fine but I have plenty of Oak Trees as I live back in a wooded area. I am doing a fish in cycle for a 5 gallon and is it best to have live plants in or not ? I already have some Hornwot in and Perseus attacked it at first but now he loves it and sleeps in it even so adorable ! Thanks !

Have you ever used an oak branch in your tanks? I have a piece off of a tree that died in last years drought (i live in texas) i have removed all the bark (took me forever!) And let it soak in boiling water but want to make sure its safe to put in the tank.

There is an area of about five scales that are black on my betta. I thought they fell off and when I posted about it someone thought it was scale rot. I brought him to petco and they said it is just coloring(although I haven't noticed it before). Do you think that that's all it is? Is he ok?

I'm thinking of the standard rectangular 2.5 gallon glass aquariums. Just a male plakat. Not a king or giant.
