I see. Even when he was still in the small tank, he did a lot of swimming, so now that he's in the bigger one, I can't decide whether it's his personal normal behaviour or not. His fins also seem great and really nice. They're almost always fanned out now and I feel like his color has gotten much more vibrant. I think he's freaking out less and he still seems ecstatic at feeding time. I guess I have to give it a few more days?
Hi! You were recommended to me if I had questions, and I would like to ask one if that's okay. Recently around two days ago, I just moved my betta fish from a half gallon to a give gallon tank. He freaked out the first day and everyone told me he was just adjusting. The second day, he seemed to have calmed down, and now today he's just swimming back and forth by the glass in front of the tank. At random points during his swimming, he suddenly dashes and gets really fast. When I held up a mirror, the way he flared I found was strange. It seemed urgent and not like usual. Normally he flares just keeping his gills out and staring, but today his gills went in and out rapidly in flare, and then no flare. I got nervous after seeing that, so I came to ask you. Do you think he's ok?
Thank you so much for replying, Oldfishlady! I managed to build up the confidence and I put him in a wide bowl with shallow water. It took a while to get him to keep still, but I managed to gently pull it out and boy was it long. A bit of his fin is tattered on the edge and right now he's isolated in a dim, quiet spot. I'll keep an eye on his fins!
Hello, I was recommended by a fellow user to contact you regarding my question. My betta fish tried to eat a half inch long piece of java fern root when the piece floated around. He couldn't swallow it and so he tried to spit it back out by opening his mouth wide repeatedly and flaring to flush out his gills. The root somehow ended out lodged into his left gill. When he flares, it sticks right out along with his gill. What can I do,OFL?
