Any species is fine and you can use smaller amounts as a tonic to just slightly tan the water, for spawning..etc...-collect some oak leaf and save for later if needed.
It can be easier to cycle fishless without plants and safer fish in with plants...

Hi OFL I was wondering if it matters what type of Oak Leaf that can be be used ? Is there any reason to use them other then having a sick fish ? Perseus is fine but I have plenty of Oak Trees as I live back in a wooded area. I am doing a fish in cycle for a 5 gallon and is it best to have live plants in or not ? I already have some Hornwot in and Perseus attacked it at first but now he loves it and sleeps in it even so adorable ! Thanks !
