So how's everything at your end?
Mine hasn't been too good. Either something came up and I can't tend to my fry, or they can't stand the new water during pwc.... things aren't too good. The ones that survive are rather small. I have F2 but lately they look kind of weak, hope they make it.

Ieds day is over and things should return to normal soon so I can fully tend to my fish. I have five new spawns going. Unfortunately I had to use bad breeders/fathers, so I'm not expecting too much out of them. I was hoping to be able to see the results next month but the way things are going, it may be longer.

Sorry I can't give you better updates. .... Oh, most of the F2 are light colored, that's all I can see so far.

Before you introduce your breeders, I suggest that you isolate the female for at least 2 days. IMO aggressive females breed faster/easier. If you know that your male loves to bite, always float your female before releasing her at least for 1 day. Then release the female just before dark or at night. They should spawn the next day.

Another thing, I don't agree on how most feed their bettas..... too few. So at least during conditioning (the last day or so) feed them more but not too much more (if they are used to eating so few, they would get problems when they suddenly eat too much). I feed mine 2x a day until their belly swells a bit and I don't have problems.
You see the male often fast during the whole process which could be 4 - 6 days.

Yes. One same male may act differently on every spawn. So it is best to always think of them as vicious and take precautions to protect the female.

Since you are starting with a platinum pair, I think you should get platinums. But don't be surprise to get other colors as well since platinum is actually a mixture of many genetic codes.
Keep me posted when you begin breeding..... Oh another thing, if you live in a house (not an apartment) there are many cheaper alternatives to breeding. Ofl has done it - read her thread.

If you don't mind my asking, what exactly do you want to come up with. IMO it doesn't matter what it is, as long as you are happy with it that you'll love and care for it. If I knew, then I can guide you more specifically. Is it colors only, not caring about fin. Or is it IBC standards. IMO either way you can start with pet store betta.... I do.

Btw, it turns out that my eyes are not as good, because my spawns does have fry. I just couldn't see them (I use black buckets and place them under my aquariums). There are only a few, about 5 - 10 per spawn, but it's a start. Hopefully I can show you the results next month or two.... if I can keep them alive. Wish me luck.

The female you posted is gorgeous. She has rather thick scales, so I'd say she at least has dragon genes. It would be great to pair her with sunny.
