Thanks for your suggestions! Turns out I did buy Omega One, which a lot of people recommended, so it should be great. (:

I was misinformed that a half gallon would be great for him... Well that's why I rushed out and got him a 5.5 gallon tank with filter for him. I thought that he would be super happy about a much larger home, but I'm afraid that it was too much at once for him.

I'm going to have the water tested tomorrow morning as soon as petsmart opens.

I did all of that before I put him into his new tank. He is really worrying me. I've only had himfor two days and me and my 8 yr old are very attached to him. He seemed much happier in his smaller tank. Should I move him back?

I've put some stress coat and water conditioners in his tank. I've got his light off, and he is in a dim area for the most part.

Ok but take it out if your fish start to act different or if more paint comes off.

I know how you feel. When you and your fish like a particular thing in the tank and you find out it is unsafe it's really hard to find another perfect thing. But you will. I have decided to do a DIY project to make my bettas a hideout. I got PVC pipe and used aquarium sealant to put gravel on the outside. It is looking awesome. Just waiting for it to be safe to put in the tanks. :) The pipes are 1m long each, so I am going to make 16 small hideouts out of it. It costed me less than the cost of ONE nice hideout ornament!
