I am new to this site and you sound like you knw your turtles, so I would like to ask you a question about feeding. I have two small RES and the only dry land I have in their tank is a large basking rock, how do I try to feed them apples of greens do I leave them on the basking area or should I actually build up a dry land area in the aquarium? Would greatly appreciate any help, I have been feeding flake, reptomin logs, shrimp, and flies and crickits, but always just put them in the water.

I was looking for your response to the use of sand as a substrate and ended up here. I guess like anything new (I'm a new member), you have to crawl before you get to walk.

Figured I would ask you a ? directly....I have a hatchling, approx. 3 months old in a tank that I placed flagstone in for him to climb, bask, etc. I currently am unable to buy a filter for him so I have been cleaning his tank and scrubbing the algae off the flagstone every 3-4 days or so. I was thinking of using something to 'seal' the flagstone so I can just rinse them with soap and water instead of the algae growing in the nooks and crannies where I am unable to fully scrub. Clear spray paint or something similar, I'm wondering if this is unsafe. Don't want to jeopardize the little guy.
