About Me

What is your name? Jeff Kriner

How old are you? 39

What is your location? Williamsport, Pennsylvania

What is your occupation? Police Officer

How did you choose your user name?
It was given to me in the Police Academy because it sounded like McGruff the Crime Dog.

My Fish Keeping

When and how did you become involved in fish keeping?
I remember my father having a tank when I was 3, I also remember me feeding the fish for him and using dye. I almost did that day. But I owned my first tank thanks to Bmac and it all began this year.

What kind of fish do you currently keep?
I mainly raise Guppies, I have several strains Lemon, Fancy Snake Skin, Blue Swordtail and most recently Red Swordtail's. I also have Blue shrimp, Apple Snails, Albino Corydora's and a set of Cichlids Apisto.C. Orange Flash ( I want to thank Bill, Dan, and Bill for the fish I now have)

What kind of setup?
All my tanks are planted and freshwater. I currently have 8 tanks 6 of which are up and running, the two larger tanks will go up (125 gallon, 55 gallon) as soon I find the room for them.

What was your most challenging fish keeping experience?
I just got over it! I had purchased the Lemon and Blue Swordtail Guppies at a fish store, and I didn't guarantee them long enough. I placed them in with my Fancy Snake skins and nearly wiped out the entire tank. After talking with Byron and placing the two new strains into their own tanks, along with major water changes every other day, I have since (fingers crossed) fixed the situation. I lost a total of 14 fish, in a two week period. All because of a lack of research on my part.

What advice would you like to share with the FishForum community?
Lean from your mistakes, and other's too, take my above example. Instead of waiting and researching I went against my own advice and bought on impulse and from a pet store, instead of a trusted breeder. I know better than to do both and you see the results. Research, and ask questions. Remember the only stupid question is the one not asked.

What would be your dream tank?
An M1A1 Abrams would be nice to have. I would like a sitting room, in my house, with a 6' tall x 6' to 8' long tank in the wall. ( Dreams are Free)

What do your friends/family think of your hobby?
At first everyone thought it was nice to see me so interested in fish. Now they all think I'm obsessed, and they're right!

Do you name your fish? If so, what are some of the names?
I don't normally name my fish but there are some that are. I have Gary and Larry both snails (thanks to my daughter) Houdini who was the sole survivor of a birthing (some have read that story) and Flash who is my male Apisto.

What fish have you had the longest?
I believe my Apple Snails are the only things that have survived all my mistakes!

What is your favorite fish of all time?
Wow, so many to choose from! I really don't have one particular favorite, but I am quite fond of my Guppies! I think all of the fish I have seen on the forums here are really great!

One a scale of one through ten, how would you rate your interest in fish keeping? (1=I hate fish, 10=Completely and hopelessly obsessed)
Right now, I am probably around a 12.

How did you discover the Fish Forum at FishForum.com?
I wanted to learn more about aquarium care, and I was looking for a forum that might answer my questions. I did a Google search and spent weeks on here reading. Now you're all stuck with me!

Other Stuff

What are your hobbies?
I love target shooting, when we go out, the whole family goes, from my father right down't to my nieces. It's been a family thing since I was child. I also dabble in writing poetry, (I've always wanted to be a songwriter, if you give me music I can put words to it, but I'm not good with putting music to words). I enjoy camping with my family and traveling to new places with them. If I get my new camera for Christmas, I will dabble in photography as well.

Do you keep any other pets?
Yes, I have a HUGE heart for animals, and my fish are the only pets that I haven't rescued! I have two dogs, a German Shepherd, and a Brittany Spaniel. We also have 2 cats, which are domestic long hair, and one of them just had six kittens! (anyone want one or two?).

What is your favorite music?
I like all kinds of music, from classical to waltz and every genre in between. I can't say I dislike any type of music, there's just some genre's that aren't my taste. But for the most part you will catch me listening to country.

What are your pet peaves?
I hate drama! I don't like listening to "my baby's daddy's girlfriend is talking smack about me". I don't like people who take my kindness for granted and think I'm oblivious to what they are doing. I don't like people who mistreat animals, children or women. I will stop here before this list gets too long!

What is your favorite film?
Boondocks Saints.

What is your favorite TV show?
Burn Notice.

What is your favorite food?
Anything that doesn't eat me first!

What is your favorite holiday?
Christmas, LEGAL NOTICE: I believe in God, I say Merry Christmas, If you don't believe in the same thing I do, then change my greeting to your religion or belief and greet me with your response, I'm not trying to change what you believe in, don't try to change what I do!

What is your favorite color?
I like the basics green, white, black, red and blue flashing in a rear view mirror.

I loved your showcase. You already know that I think you have a great looking family but I have to tell you, the picture of your German Shepherd knocked me over. I know we've talked about him and that you've had him on a diet so I wasn't expecting to see such a beautiful dog.

Thank You everyone,

I'm glad you all enjoyed my showcase. It was fun to do.

As for Zeus, yes he has lost a lot of weight he was 144 lbs when we first got him, He's slowly trimming down. He's 123 lbs right now and I would like to see him in the 110 -100 range.

Thank you all for the nice comments, I appreciate that you even took the time to read over it.

Jeff
