About Me:

What is your real first name?
Jennifer!

Where are you located?
Central Florida, born and raised.

What is your occupation?
Currently nothing ;p Applying for a course in Veterinary Assisting though, fingers crossed I get accepted!

How did you choose your forum user name?
Okay, so, this is kind of a long answer BUT, you asked. The first part is obvs part of my name 'Jen', but the 'tralala' part is from the movie Labyrinth, where Jareth tosses aside his disguise and exclaims "Nothing? Nothing? Nothing, tra la la?". It's my favorite movie, and that's one of my favorite scenes.

My Fishkeeping experience:

When & how did you become involved in fishkeeping?
Humm, would have been around...October? 2012. I saw pictures of planted tanks online, and it completely took my breath away. I wanted something like that, natural and vibrant, a piece of nature within my four walls.

How did you discover this fish forum?
I did a quick internet search for fish forums, and this one was my favorite. I jsut loved the community and the layout of it.

What kind of fish do you currently keep?
Harlequin Rasboras, Kuhli (as much as they CAN be called Kuhli ) Loaches, and a Betta fish.

What size tanks and setups do you have?
I have a 35 gallon, a 10 gallon, and a 3 gallon. I'm hopefully setting up a 20L in the near future.

What would be your dream tank?
Ehehehe. A 220g (or larger!) Amazon biotope with a large shoal (around 16) of Angelfish, and large shoals of top dwelling fish and bottom dwelling fish, with the possibility of a few misc fish in the mix. It would be dim, with only large crypts and floating plants, with crypt. spiralis waving in the flow, and absolutely filled with thick, gnarly driftwood branches.

Do you name your fish? If so, what are their names?
Nah, not really. I can't tell them apart! I name my Bettas, though. The current one I have doesn't have a name though, but it will most likely be something related to cold weather.

What is your favorite fish?
That I own? Harlequin Rasboras. In general? It's a tie between Angelfish and Indostomus Crocodilus.

What was your most challenging fishkeeping experience?
My brief foray into keeping Pearl Gourami. They just kept fighting no matter what I did, no matter which fish I swapped.

What advice would you like to share with the forum community?
This isn't exactly fishy related, but it's a quote I've always liked. "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." - Dr. Seuss

Oh a fishy related note, I would have to say, do your research! And when you think you've learned all you can, go back and research again and again. It will save you a world of headaches later.

Other stuff about me:

What are your other hobbies?
I enjoy reading, doodling, and going on 'adventures' with my puppy. I also really love baking sweets and making dinners from scratch.

Do you keep any other pets?
Three indoor cats, two outdoor cats, and a Maltese mix puppy named Toby. (Can you tell I REALLY like Labyrinth?)

What are your favorite bands/type of music?
I really enjoy music like Lana Del Rey, Lorde, Florence + The Machine, Mumford & Sons, Bastille, GOLDHOUSE, and a few others. I mainly just listen to my Pandora stations.

What are a few of your favorite films?
Can you guess? ;p Labyrinth, of course, for one. I also really enjoy animated movies, like How to Train Your Dragon. That's my absolute favorite.

What are your favorite TV shows?
I have so. Many. Shows. Currently my obsession is NBC's Hannibal (SO GOOD. But lots of gore.), but I also watch The Walking Dead, The Following (again, SO GOOD), Game Of Thrones, Downton Abbey, Face Off...that's not even half xD I'm SO PUMPED for the new show, Jim Henson's Creature Shop Challenge that's coming on soon.

What are a few of your favorite books?
The Deed of Paksenarrion, The Book of Lost Things, and A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones).

What is your favorite food?
Hands down, TACOS. I could live off of chicken tacos for the rest of my life.

What are your pet peeves?
People who are rude, especially to those in service positions (waiters/waitresses, cashiers, etc)
What is REALLY important to you?

Being kind to others. You never know what they're going through, or how their day has been. I'm also a supporter of movements for equality.

What is your favorite silly quote?
I just told you! ;)I can give another, though..."Your Highness! Your Highness! Your Highness, the girl! The girl who ate the peach and forgot everything!"

Anything else that you'd like to share?
My inbox is always open. No matter if it's for advice, a shoulder to lean on, or just something silly.

MattsBettas

About Me:

What is your real first name?
Matthew, but I go by Matt a lot. Either works.

Where are you located?
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

What is your occupation?
Student

How did you choose your forum user name?
Name's Matt. I have bettas. Still makes me mad that there's no apostrophe in there, but it would look funny if there was one and I'm not even sure if they're allowed.

My Fishkeeping experience:

When & how did you become involved in fishkeeping?
I was always had fish of some sort growing up, on and off, whether it was a betta or a small community. I still cringe thinking of how I cared for them and never bothered to quarantine. Ahh, so glad to have found this forum.

How did you discover this fish forum?
I frequented it for information after discovering it on a google search one day and decided to join.

What kind of fish do you currently keep?
LOTS of domestic bettas (Betta splendens), Betta channoides, Endler's livebearers (Poecilia wingei), and marbled/marmorkreb/self-cloning crayfish... Believe me, the fish I want to own are MUCH more exciting then the ones I do!

What size tanks and setups do you have?
Running right now I have a twenty gallon planted, three ten gallons (One blackwater, one java moss stuffed, and one with gravel and a chunk of pipe), three five gallons, a three gallon, a one gallon jar (naturally planted), and then jars for bettas (sitting in a spare ten gallon with a heater). All filtered and/or planted. I think that's all. Then there's a few in storage.

What would be your dream tank?
200+ gallons densely planted with schools of... Something. I really just want it big and planted. A massive reef would be amazing too.

Do you name your fish? If so, what are their names?
My fish only get names if they're really special or someone else names them. The one that has a name is Squirt, a super tiny runt that lives in the aforementioned 1g jar.

What is your favorite fish?
One? I'm supposed to chose one favorite fish? Ugh... If I had to choose one fish I like more then all the rest, Betta persephone comes to mind- critically endangered and beautiful. Have to point out that LittleBettaFish and her amazing photography is the reason that they're at the top of my list (yes, there is a real list). My favorite fish that I own or have owned is the domestic betta.

What was your most challenging fishkeeping experience?
I made keeping the channoides difficult for myself, but most challenging was probably raising multiple betta spawns simultaneously.

What advice would you like to share with the forum community? Quarantine and do water changes, and never be afraid to learn more!

Other stuff about me:

What are your other hobbies?
This is the hobby... I love photography, that's pretty much the other one. I run a lot and bike quite a bit during the summer, swim, and listen to a lot of music... If those count as hobbies.

Do you keep any other pets?
Yup, a leopard gecko that is getting old.

What are your favorite bands/type of music?
There's no specific genre I listen to, but some artists I like are The Black Keys, Lana Del Rey (she's definitely a favorite... Way less popular then she should be), Florence + The Machine (I see a trend -_-), Tegan and Sara, Morgan Page, Martin Solveig, Calvin Harris, David Guetta, U2, Rihanna, Avicii, Rudimental, The Neighborhood, OneRepublic, Mumford & Sons... I could go on.

What are a few of your favorite films?
I don't really have favorite films, despite the fact that I watch a ton.

What are your favorite TV shows?
Breaking Bad, How I Met Your Mother (only because I'm currently blowing through it on Netflix), The Office (American), The Blacklist, The Amazing Race, and The Daily Show all come to mind. There's still so much tv I have to watch and so many I'm forgetting.

What are a few of your favorite books?
I actually don't read a ton of novels... Most of my reading material comes in the form of articles. I recently read The Book Thief and really enjoyed it, though.

What is your favorite food?
I just like food, period. I don't really have a favorite... But bananas and apples and every other fruit are awesome. If I had to pick one favorite food though... Cabbage rolls.

What are your pet peeves?
Don't really have any that come to mind. Not a whole lot bothers me.

What is REALLY important to you?
My friends are super important to me. I'm also really passionate about equality.

What is your favorite silly quote?
Don't have any favorite in particular... But anything on an Ecard or out of Ellen's mouth should be relatable and entertaining to me.

Anything else that you'd like to share?
Not really. I'm not all that exciting of a person. I second Jennifer, though- feel free to message me for a question or a rant or anything else.

About Me:

What is your real first name?
De'Anna but since no one pronounces it correctly, De works just fine!

Where are you located?
The State of Rhode Island and the Providence Plantations! (Legit full name if you didn't know!)

What is your occupation?
Student!

How did you choose your forum user name?
Funny story. So my best friend and I when we were very young were both (still are) obsessed with Lord of the Rings, like to the point where we could speak, read and write Elvish (mostly Sindarian though not Qenya). So since I was shorter and more stout than she, I was Gimli as she was Legolas. In Elvish "naugrim" means dwarf and somehow "little dwarf" came about and that transformed into lil'naugrim but in usernames you can't use the apostrophe (I feel you Matt!) so it thus became lilnaugrim and I've had it ever since!

My Fishkeeping experience:

When & how did you become involved in fishkeeping?

As I was growing up we did have a 20 gallon regular high tank that was given to us by my great grandfather (original heater and all!) we kind of....killed a lot of our fish by accident.....so fast forward to 2010 Winter into 2011, I took care of my friend's Betta while she was back in Wisconsin or somewhere far and then fast forward to 2012 Summer and I ended up with my very own Betta fish! The first three had horrible fates unfortunately but I look at them as learning experiences! I've faithefully had my Rembrandt since December 3rd 2012!

How did you discover this fish forum?

Surfing the web, looking up information and I found BettaFish.com first although I still use that as my main site. I learned about TFK a few months after I joined.

What size tanks and setups do you have?
