Hello There!
My name is Mike and as you might expect I AM Abbey's dad :)
I was quite into the tropical fish hobby back in the 70's. I had a 29g, 20g and 6 - 10g Aquariums!, breeding and raising live bearers.
Things change and for the last couple of years my daughter had some
Goldfish. We were likely guilty of not being vigil enough with tank maintenance. After the last one passed on, somehow tropical fish was suggested, so I tore the tank down and set it back up with heater and power filter in addition to the UGF filter and we got a few tropical fish. Well, after two weeks, the
Platy's gave birth and so we now have approx 20 fry in a net breeder. I have my old 29g in the basement with a UGF and thought I could fashion a stand, so need heater, filter and hood/lights and I'd be good.
Well, instead, a subsequent trip to Petsmart yielded a 60g ensemble (tank, stand, hoods) coming home with me!
And so it goes.
My plan is to move the adult fish from the 10g into the new tank (when ready) and use the 10g to raise the fry until they're big enough to also move into the big tank. At that point, the 10g may be retired.
I think I may be making new friends to give away many of the Red Wag
Platy fry.
My goal for the 60g is to get the decor right (thinking plastic plants now) and having a diverse community tank.
This seems like an excellent forum that I am very pleased to join!
