new to the forum and the fish thing in general. i bought a 26 gal with a biowheel 200 and other stuff off craigslist for dirt cheap. the tank is now filled wit new gravel, some fake plants and some small caves. all levels are good but im boostin ph/kh to get it harder since i want a rts.

the only problem im having is with my air pump and stone(7" wall bubble). im not gettin any bubbles when its attached to my pump but i can blow bubbles threw it. im gonna buy another smaller stone tomorrow and hopefully that works out. and will put some starter fish in on mon/tues.

my stock/wish list is:
1 Red Tailed Shark(definitely gettin)
6-8 cherry barbs(almost definite)
3/4 corys(up in the air, not sure the compatibility) i need some type of algee eater and i thnk these will work


any input on anything is greatly appreciated. i really want to get this air pump this sorted out first. im guessing the pump isnt powerful enough. i know it works because it works with an air-action ornament that the tank came wit. but i dont wanna use it.

yea, ive come to that conclusion. i figured it wasnt, i shortened the line and it helped a little. just gonna pick up a small stone tomorrow.

i think im fine wit cycling since it was a used biowheel. but i replaced the filter so there should be some bacteria already in the water im hoping. just gonna throw some hardy starter fish in to start. ive had an aquarium when i was younger and just threw dainos in a tank after a few days of letitng it run wit conditioner in the water.

How nice to find a tank dirt cheap...ya gotta love Craigslist.
Just a heads up: corys (great fish) have very delicate & sensitive barbels. Not sure how large/sharp your gravel is? As far as "starter" fish...are these fish you'll be happy keeping once your tank is cycled? If not, you may want to consider fishless cycling. Glad you joined us

well the cherry barbs i wanna keep. they are pretty hardy from what ive been told at the fish store and online. and they like temps at what a rts would need.

the reason i wasnt definite of corys is because i have a regular gravel, not big but i doubt its a soft enough substrate. but plecos get really large and i dont know if ill want that. any algee eating type fish that arent ugly to look at that i could get?

and it was supposebly a 30 gal but i think its a 26 since a tag on the inside of the stand says 26 bf stand. but hey it was 40 bucks and needed a cleaning. i all i bought were the plants, gravel and heater

looks great! love the black substrate. adding a background will help hide wires and such and make things inside the tank pop out more. i suggest a black one, but its your tank to choose ;)

thanks, meant to pickup a background today when i was at the LFS but forgot. i actaully wanna get either black or blue like in the lfs. i think the blue backgrounds look really cool. so ill probably get the double sided one with black and blue and see what i like

it ends up being 29.6 if put the right calculations in. sweet. but i still wonder about the tag on the stand.
