Hi guy and gals new to your comunity and new to tropical fish keeping.
I have been given a Juwel trigon 190 for christmas and would appreciate your help and thoughts what to start off with. I would like something to keep my young children Interested . Used to have tropical fish many moons ago. Your input would be appreciated

Welcome to the forum! What you want to start off with depends on your pH and hardness, you could get them tested 4 free at a pet or fish store. If you have a high pH and hardness level like me african cichlids are fun, or if you have softer water with a lower pH, a south american tank would be cool .
I have just started a malawi cichlid tank and it's been fun, people on the forum are really helpful too.

Welcome to TFK, we are glad you found us. You say you want the kids interested? Perhaps visit a LFS and see what grabs their eye. I let my nephews do this, and let them pick out the fish (of course, I "steered" them in the direction we needed to go, lol).
As catdawg suggests, get your water tested so you can match fish to your water parameters.

Welcome to the forum. Find yourself a good local fish store, bring a tap water sample to them and see what will work best in your tank. You can also post your water hardness and ph readings here and there will be plenty of folks able to help steer you in the direction of which fish will do well in your tank.

Yes, choose fish that will suit your water type. If they suit, I can recommend platies which I have in my 165-litre with a group of pristella tetras and some corydoras catfish. They come in different colours and the females grow quite big and it is interesting them grow over time. (Be warned though, if you put both males and females in your tank, they will breed.)

Cories are also adorable. Someone described them as being like puppies and I agree. When they are not sitting perfectly still, they wiggle around and look very cute, going over the gravel looking for stuff.

Guppies are another colourful fish that the kids might like (but will also breed if you mix sexes).

When you go to the fish shop to select your fish, double-check the information you are given before getting your fish. People often come away with fish which will get way too big for their tank, or which will fight with each other or some other issue that the fish shop people either didn't know about or didn't warn the person about. You might save yourself some headaches if you find out anything relevant before you have the fish.
