Hey everyone, I am brand new to the whole fish keeping hobby. My girlfriend wanted me to get her a fish and not until i bought and put together the 10 gallon freshwater aquarium did she mention she just wanted a little goldfish in a bowl. But the tank is 3 days old now and I have learned so much through reading all these forums and asking the stupid duh questions. I look forward to interacting here with everyone.

Well, you see, she is from Venus and you are from Mars, so naturally there's going to be some communication issues......

So, put a few fancy goldfish in the 10 gal. tank, give them cute names, and she will love you forever :)

We did something close to that we put 2 guppies, one named turtle the other fin, a molly named spot, a danio named squirt, and a skirted tetra named daisy. She is quite happy and I am trying to monitor the tank cycle closely because it was not until after i started the tank on tuesday that I found out about the tank cycle. So basically if one of the fish dies she would start crying lol.

Good luck. I am hoping my guppies and goldfish make it through the cycle. I found out about it after I added them slowly to the tank. I will know is a few days.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome my tank is now a week and a day old and it is getting better as time goes, the cycle is still only on the ammonia spike though

don't forget,if you have any friends/relatives with tropical tanks you can always
ask for some of their filter media to help yours along. :)

The ammonia is spiking but the nitrites just are not budging it has only been 9 days though so we will see, it is a small 10 gallon tank so i figured it would not take the full 6-8 weeks that others project
