Hi all! I've been checking out forums for a few weeks and decided to join this one after reading some of your great posts. Everyone on here seems very knowledgable and friendly. I figured I should take a minute and introduce myself. My name is Jessica and I'm pretty new to the aquarium hobby, but I'm already becoming obsessed. I've had a 5 gallon for about 2 years now, but never did much research.I pretty much just did whatever the guy at my pet store told me to do lol. I've had mixed results with that tank. I only have one surviving fish from my original 5 fish, an awesome albino cory cat. I also have a red-eye tetra in my 5 gallon. I decided a few months ago to do some research and get my little tank healthy again after losing several fish. I got the little tank in really good shape and both my little guys are doing very well. About 2 weeks ago I added a 29 gallon to my household. So far I have 5 plants and 6 zebra danios in my new tank. I plan on adding my cory and red-eye, 3 more corys, 3 plattys, and 5 lemon tetras over time. I'm still trying to decide what to do with my 5 gallon afer I move my fish. I'm open to any tips, tricks, or advice and look forward to sharing this awesome hobby with all of you!

Hi Jessica, welcome to TFK. We're glad you decided to join us. Congrats on moving up to a bigger tank, which is always so fun to do. As for your five gallon, I've kept a betta and a few otos in a 6gl very happily, but the otos, in my opinion, require a planted established tank in order to do really well. Right now my two 6gl are home to two very large Red Cherry Shrimp colonies. They are really cute critters to watch. They went through a population explosion and I need to trim it back to one tank only as I want to set up anther betta tank. As soon as I give away all of the RCS from the one tank I will set it up for fish.
I wish I could find pygmy cories, if I could, I'd get six of those and one betta. I also was considering a small school of Celestial Pearl Danios but I can't find those locally either.

welome aboard ...this is the site to frequent on the hobby....friendly people indeed...get us some pics of your aquarium posted....have you seen the endlers pics some of the peoples have been posting...they look good in small tanks...just skip the females to curb the population...ADIOS....

Hi Jess,

Welcome to the forum :) My vote for your 5 gallon tank would be a really majestic halfmoon or veiltail male betta. Check out my pictures - the first two are the betta in my 5 gallon tank and the last picture is a shot of the tank.

You can make it a real showpiece.

Welcome to the forum. I too would vote for a nice Betta in a 5 gallon with a few plants. Can't wait to hear what you decide. Congrats on getting the 29 gallon. I bet you are having a blast setting it up.

Hi and welcome. Bettas are great fish and one would love your 5 gallon. I've also got an apple snail in with each of mine.

Thanks for the warm welcome and suggestions! I think a Betta might just be the plan for the smaller tank. I'm planning on moving my fish to the larger tank in the next week or so. I'll post some pics when I get everyone settled in their new homes.
