My brother has two fancy Goldfish and doesn't know how often to feed them. His tank is only ten gallons. Can somebody tell us how often to feed them.

Fish should be fed once or twice a day. I would not feed the Goldfish too much because it will only make maintaining good water quality that much more difficult. I hate to say this to you again, but the Goldfish need a significantly larger tank. The ten is not suitable for them.

I feed my Goldfish once or twice a day, and fast her for one day. But just a pinch of flakes for each fish once a day should be enough, and you can skip a day a week. I'd keep an eye out for a 55 gallon tank, that would be great for them. Please make sure he keeps the tank clean! I had one Goldfish in a 15 gallon before I upgraded and had to do two 90% changes a week.

Goldfish ought to be fed sinking pellets. You do not want them feeding from the surface because they can swallow too much air. And like the cichlids, Goldfish are messy eaters and need more substantial food than a flake.

Mine doesn't like pellets, so I soak the flakes before I put them in and make sure they sink instead of float.

It will eat them and love them. You just have to fast it first. After a couple days without food it will eat its fill of pellets. Though, it's very atypical for a Goldfish to be a picky eater.

Sinking pellets two or three times a day is good for Goldfish. Flakes aren't good especially for the fancies because they often cause bloat. Younger, growing fish should be fed more, but in an effort to keep the waste to a minimum in that tank, once or twice a day is fine.

Jaysee is right. Those two fish need a larger tank. A 30 gal is minimum for two Goldfish, but as eaturbyfill suggested a 55 gal is best. This will also enable you to add one or two more Goldfish to the school. If you want to convince your brother to upgrade, show him some videos of large Goldfish on youtube. They can get huge (8"+).
